🇺🇬 President Museveni promises tractor and solar irrigation pumps to coffee farmers in Greater Masaka
📌President Museveni has pledged a tractor and solar irrigation pumps to Nalubale Coffee Farmers in Greater Masaka region. The President also promised the farmers Shs100 Million as a boost to their SACCO.
“I will give you solar panels which the irrigation pump will use, and lastly I am going to give you Shs100 Million,” President Museveni said.
The President Tuesday commenced his four-day tour of the Greater Masaka region where he will spread the gospel of wealth creation and promotion of the Parish Development Model.

🇺🇬 NRM commences by-election nominations
📌The National Resistance Movement (NRM) electoral commission has commenced receiving application forms from candidates interested in filling the position of Oyam North constituency. The seat fell vacant following the death of the State Minister for Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations, Col (Rtd) Charles Okello Engola on May2. Dr. Tanga Odoi, the party’s electoral commission chairperson, said the exercise for picking nomination forms will run for a week in Kampala.
“Beginning Tuesday (today) to Monday (May 29), all aspirants can express their interest in the by-election and the venue is the NRM electoral commission party headquarters in Kampala,” Dr. Odoi said.

🇺🇬 Ministry of Health to establish  State of Art laboratory
📌The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Diana Atwiine, during the NRM Manifesto week 2023, has revealed that Government through the Uganda National Drug Authority will establish a state of art laboratory which will help the country earn from foreign exchange because “we shall be receiving samples from the sub-Saharan”. The laborarory will test all medicines and vaccines instead of sending them to South Africa like before.

🇺🇬 BUDUDA: Student killed by brother in-law over PDM money
📌 A 21-year-old student at Bulucheke Secondary School identified as Andrew Watetera has been hacked to death by his brother-in-law following a heated argument over the Parish Development Model (PDM) cash. The victim was a resident of Bunasaba village in Bumakita parish, Nalwanza sub-county. According to reports, Watetera had paid a visit to his brother-in-law, Samuel Mashetisha over the weekend, after Mashetisha’s wife, the sister to the deceased had allegedly ran away to Kenya with one million PDM money Mashetisha  had borrowed. He then avenged by entering the house and grabbing a machete, and mercilessly hacking Watetera on the head, killing him instantly. Rogers Taitika, Elgon Region police spokesperson confirmed the incident, saying that a manhunt for Mashetisha is underway. Taitika said Watetera had disguised the murder as suicide by hanging his lifeless body from the roof using a rope.

🇺🇬 LUWEERO: Two arrested over theft of Shs21M PDM
📌 Police in Luweero District are holding two people on allegations of stealing Shs21 million meant for Kyetume Parish Development Model (PDM) Sacco in Zirobwe Sub County. The suspects were identified by Luweero District Police Commander (DPC) as Brian Atulinda, the Chairperson Kyetume Parish Development Sacco and his Secretary Charles Aturinde, both residents of Zirobwe Sub County in Luweero District.
“The suspects will be arraigned before Court to answer charges relating to theft of government funds. We so far have two suspects relating to this particular case but investigations are still ongoing,” he said.

🇺🇬 ADJUMANI: Security guards arrested over stealing Govt relief food
📌Police in Adjumani District has detained two security guards attached to KK Security Company for allegedly stealing 200Kg of maize flour and 50Kg of beans meant for refugees in Boroli settlement Camp, Pakele Sub County. Police say that the culprits, Angundu Simon, 28 and Adrabo James, 20 were arrested over the weekend vending a bag of maize at Ugx70,000 and beans at Ugx150,000. The dual is under police custody at Adjumani Central Police Station as investigations continue.

🇺🇬 WAKISO: Police rescues 13 human trafficking  victims
📌The Territorial Police in Bulenga-Wakiso have rescued about 13 children who a one Paul Alitia of Nakuwadde village, Wakiso sub county in Wakiso district had allegedly traficked. Fred Enanga, the Police Spokesperson explained that police picked intelligence that there were about 13 children aged 8-17 being harbored in the home of the suspect under suspicious grounds. Police established that the home is not registered or licensed to operate as an NGOs or shelter home. The victims were picked from various places by the suspect after promising to get for them school bursaries at various schools. The victims are undergoing counselling and rehabilitation.

🇺🇬 SHEEMA: Police reunites 12 children with their families after rescuing them from alleged trafficker
📌The territorial police in Greater Masaka Bushenyi Region have arrested a taxi driver known as Byaruhanga Moses who was transporting 12 children, under suspicious circumstances. Upon arrest, he claimed he was taking the children for a prayer crusade at Bugongi cell, Bugongi, town council in Sheema, yet he picked them from the crusade for a joy ride around, without the knowledge and permission of their parents. He was arrested and taxi registration number UAU 647M impounded. While addressing a presser on Monday, Fred Enanga, the Police spokesperson said that all the children were re-united with their parents as inquiries continue.

🇺🇬 MADI-OKOLLO: Locals worried by invasion of strange flies
📌Unusual flies have infested Madi Okollo district in the West Nile region, prompting panic among the local population. The tiny, black flies have primarily invaded Pawor and Okollo sub-counties over the past two months. Andrean Etole, the district Vector Control Officer says that the flies predominantly target the legs and arms, leaving behind blood and causing itchiness similar to the symptoms of scabies. Swaib Toko, the Resident District Commissioner urges the locals to remain calm while district health officials investigate and devise strategies to eliminate the flies.

🌍 SOUTH SUDAN: Parliament summons Central Bank Governor, Finance Minister over currency depreciation
📌The Governor of the Central Bank of South Sudan and the Minister of Finance have been summoned by Parliament to answer questions on the country’s biting economic situation amid a rapid currency devaluation. The South Sudanese pound has steadily dropped in value compared to the US dollar since the beginning of this month.  On Monday, prices around Juba stood at about SSP 105 for USD 1. The Central Bank blames the depreciation of the South Sudanese Pound against the US dollar on the conflict in Sudan and dependence on imports.

🌍 KENYA: DPP under pressure to resign over alleged misconduct
The National Integrity Alliance on Monday called for the removal of Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Noordin Haji. In a petition to the Public Service Commission, the petitioners termed Haji’s tenure as one beset with incompetence, gross misconduct and lacking in leadership and integrity. The petitioner claims Haji failed to follow set out guidelines on decisions to charge cases, acting against the interests of justice, and in the process failing to promote public trust and confidence in his capacity as DPP.
