Andrew Watetera a 21-year-old student of Bulucheka Secondary School in Budda district, has been killed by his brother in-law  identified as Samuel Mashetisha,a resident from Tototo village, Bumirume parish in Bukigali sub-county, following a dispute over parish development model money (PDM). The victim was a resident of Bunasaba village in Bumakita parish, Nalwanza sub county.

Mashetisha was married to Mutenywa Suzan (24), who is also the sister of the deceased.

According to local authorities, Mutenywa ran away with the money the couple had gotten from the PDM fund, worth one million Uganda shillings, to Kenya which left the suspect angry and wanting revenge on the family of the victim.

Residents revealed that Watetera had paid a visit over the weekend with his girlfriend, Nabuyaka Vivian, 18 years old, and an argument erupted when Mashetisha narrated the incident to the victim, saying that he had got the PDM money together with his wife.

“So, the discussion resulted in a heated argument, which later escalated into a physical altercation in which Mashetisha was overpowered by Watetera. Mashetisha quickly entered the house, grabbed a machete, and killed him instantly. Mashetisha then took the lifeless body and hanged it from the roof using a rope, attempting to stage it as a suicide”, said the local authorities.

After the victim’s girlfriend, Nabuyaka, realized that Watetera was killed, she made an alarm, and Mashetisha chased the girl, got her along the road, and cut her, but she was rescued and taken to White Cross Bunamubi Hoapital in Bukigali Sub County in Budada District.

The police of Bududa central station were alerted, and after they confirmed the incident, the body was later taken to Bududa hospital for a post-mortem, still providing security to the area as they are still hunting for the suspect, who is still on the run.
