🇺🇬  Corrupt officials will soon lose their appetite to steal public resources – President Museveni
📌President  Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has re echoed tough actions against corrupt Government officials who are impeding the development of the country. While presiding over the International Labour Day held at Namutumba District headquarters on Monday May 1, the President said the corrupt politicians and public officials in Government will soon lose their appetite to steal public resources. Describing them as parasites, he warned them to stop asking for bribes but assist those he termed as ‘wealth creators’.
“Don’t ask for a bribe. Assist the wealth creators. We have got two enemies whom I am going to fight, and you are going to hear the fight. These are corrupt politicians and civil servants,” said President Museveni.
According to him, the corrupt officials in Government are the ones frustrating efforts to spur development in the country.
“These are the ones interfering with your future. These are the ones disturbing the investors, asking for bribes, and delaying decisions. All of you parasites and non-patriots, stop! Because I will definitely collide with you,” he re echoed.
On the current road infrastructure network, the President said the Government is committed to increasing the budget for roads in the districts for road maintenance.
“On my way here, I did not experience any difficulty at all. As we expose the bad roads, we should not forget the good ones. We shall also ensure the tarmac roads are well maintained and repaired,” he said. He also cautioned the Uganda Development Bank (UDB) against delaying investors from accessing loans that the Government has put up to support and finance production at all levels. This year’s celebration was held under the theme “Promoting positive work, culture, and ethics: A perspective for increased investment, employment opportunities, and household incomes.”

🇺🇬 First Lady Janet Museveni rallies Ugandans to shun foreign beliefs, defend the institution of marriage
📌The  First Lady, Mrs Janet Museveni has rallied Ugandans to speak out against harmful foreign beliefs and practices that weaken the institution of marriage and the family. Mrs Museveni said each Ugandan should stand up for the family, especially now that the institution of the family is under attack.
“All of us should know that the protection of the family is vital to the stability of society. Therefore, I urge everyone to speak up for what is right. We must defend the family as the foundation of society. We must raise our children to honour the written word of God and to uphold Biblical principles,” she said.
Janet Museveni was speaking during the golden jubilee marriage celebrations of Pastor Nicholas Wafula and his wife Elizabeth Wafula as a guest of honour at Kololo Independence Grounds on Saturday. She emphasised that marriage is the place where procreation happens and that multiplication takes two genders, the male and the female.

🇺🇬 Catholic lawyers to establish first ever university in Karamoja
📌The Catholic Lawyers Society International (CLASI) has pledged to establish a University of Peace and Technology in Karamoja that will primarily offer science-based courses. The lawyers made the announcement during the launch of their activities at St. Augustine Institute Chapel in Nsambya. President Museveni, who was appointed as the University chancellor, was represented by the Vice President, Jessica Alupo Epel, who applauded the organisation for initiating social uplifting programs aimed at improving the well-being of people. He also contributed UGX 60 million to the pre-launch activities. Severino Twinobusingye, the President of the Association said the University, set to open in Kotido Municipality, will be the first in the Karamoja sub-region.

🇺🇬  No Ebola in Buwenge as samples of suspect test negative
📌The Health Ministry has announced that the laboratory tests for the suspected Ebola case in Jinja District turned out negative for both Ebola and other viral hemorrhagic fevers. Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, the Health Minister said Sunday that the samples taken from the late Anthony Mutebe, a resident of Mukwanga Zone in Buwenge town, were tested at both the Central Public Health Laboratory in Butabika and the Uganda Virus Research Institute in Entebbe, and both came out negative. She said the exact cause of Mutebe’s death will soon be disclosed.

🇺🇬 Mulago National Referral Hospital conducts two-day free Wellness Clinic
📌Hundreds of Ugandans have this Monday braved the rain to access free medical services at Mulago National Referral Hospital’s Wellness Clinic. Mr David Nuwamanya, the principal administrator of the Mulago Hospital said that the medical camp will provide a wide range of free health services to both children and adults. The two-day exercise that started Monday will end on Tuesday. The Services being offered include screening for prostate, breast, and cervical cancers, tuberculosis, diabetes, kidney, heart, blood, and skin diseases.

🇺🇬 Standard Gauge Railway works to commence in August
📌The State Minister for Works Fred Byamukama has revealed that the SGR construction will commence in August. Byamukama expounds that the Government had valued the entire land in Namanve at Shs800 million, which was already set aside to compensate the tenants.

🇺🇬 MBALE: Chinese National robbed Shs71M in broad daylight
📌Thugs donning police uniforms have robbed a Chinese national of Shs 71 Million which he had just withdrawn from Stanbic Bank, Mbale branch.The Chinese engineer attached to Chinese Railway Sevens Group, a company contracted to construct Kufu- Magale Road in Namisindwa District was robbed in broad daylight on Saturday April 29, 2023 in Lwoki Village, Bombobi Parish, Bumbobi Sub-County, Mbale District. Five robbers in police uniforms intercepted the Chinese official and his driver who were travelling in a Toyota Wish and picked a bag from the vehicle, before escaping through the Butaleja route.
“The victims claim when they reached Bungokho Sub-county, the Chinese driver was stopped and ordered out of the car. The thugs continued with the Chinese [engineer] for some distance,” the Elgon regional police spokesperson Rogers Taitika said.

🇺🇬  TORORO: Three parishes receive PDM cash
📌Three parishes of Kabei, Chemukang and Kapseneton have received Parish Development Model funds to boost PDM SACCOs. While receiving the money amounting to UgShs 30 Million,  the groups’ chairpersons appreciated the Government for supporting the local people to fight poverty as they promised to use the funds sustainably to their benefit. The Deputy Resident District Commissioner officer Albert Amula assured the groups that didn’t get the funds to be more organised “because everyone is  entitled to PDM funds.”

🇺🇬  RUKUNGIRI: Police retrieves three bodies from River Rushaya
📌Police in Rukungiri has retrieved three bodies of people who drowned in River Rushaya in Kagorogoro village, Bwambara sub-county in Rukungiri District. River Rushaya burst its banks during the heavy downpour  on Saturday. The police spokesperson for kigezi region, Elly Maate identified the victims as Edson Ngabirano, Bonny Kyabasasi, Arthur Birungi who are said to have been brewing local brew at the river bank when the incident happened. Some others were rescued and rushed to Bugangari Health Center 1V for treatment.

📌Police in Mbale have registered a fatal accident that left a teacher at Lwaso Primary School and a resident of Greater ward, Mbale Northern Division, Rev. Francis Wakhooli, 58, of St Paul Church of Uganda dead. The Elgon region police spokesperson Rogers Taitika, explained that Mitsubishi Fuso (UAM 080V) loaded with sawdust driven heading towards Mbale lost control and knocked the motorcycle (UDB 064M) coming from the same direction ridden by Rev. Wakhooli, killing him instantly.

🇺🇬  KWEEN: UWA draws Mount Elgon National Park boundaries
📌The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has drawn and marked the Mount Elgon national park boundaries in the sub-counties of Kaseko and Benet, as well as the Teryet community in Kapchorwa. Hope Atuire, the Kween Resident District Commissioner says the process was successful though her team will investigate claims of some residents who accused UWA of engaging in unlawful eviction.

🌍 World Food Program resumes Sudan Aid
📌The United Nations’ World Food Program has said it will immediately lift the suspension of its operations in Sudan that was put in place after the tragic deaths of its team members.
“WFP is rapidly resuming its programs to provide the life-saving assistance that many so desperately need right now,” WFP executive director Cindy McCain said.  The WFP on April 16 said it had temporarily halted all operations in Sudan after three of its employees were killed in clashes between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
