The Troop Contributing Countries to the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) have been commended for their formidable role in stabilizing Somalia and maintaining regional peace and development.

Mr. Vincent Bagiire, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made the remarks while co-chairing a meeting of Permanent Secretaries, Chiefs of Defence Forces Staff, and Senior Officials from Troop Contributing Countries to ATMIS at the Kampala Serena Hotel with his counterpart, Ms. Rosette Byengoma, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs.

In his remarks, Bagiire emphasized the significance of the gathering, saying it serves as a crucial forum for the Troop Contributing Countries to gauge and evaluate ATMIS’s performance.

He reminded the delegates that ATMIS has significantly contributed to Somalia’s peace, security, and stability, helped with the country’s political transition and training, and teamed up with Somali Security to free territories that had been under Al-Shabaab control.

Vincent concluded by thanking the Troop Contributing Nations for their individual efforts to the mission, highlighting Uganda’s commitment to carrying out the ATMIS mandate’s requirements in the spirit of Pan-Africanism.

The meeting was attended by delegates from, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, Burundi, the IGAD secretariat, ambassadors and representatives from the African Union, as well as United Nations Support Office in Somalia.
