President Museveni meets Parliamentary Legal Affairs Committee over Anti-Homosexuality Bill 2023

H.E. the President of the Republic of Uganda, YK Museveni, met with the Parliamentary Legal Affairs Committee yesterday, April 25, 2023, at State House to discuss and improve the Anti-Homosexuality Bill 2023 that was recently passed by Parliament.

“I met with the Parliamentary Legal Affairs Committee and other parties with interest in the Anti-Homosexuality Bill 2023. We discussed exhaustively the elements of the Bill and the public will be informed after Parliament discusses it further,” Museveni stated.

The meeting followed the decision by the NRM Parliamentary Caucus and Independent Members of Parliament working with the NRM party in a meeting held on 20th April 2023 at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds that was chaired by the President, who’s also the National Chairperson of NRM.

After examining all the related issues and concerns, the caucus advised the president to send back the bill to Parliament with proposals for its improvement.

The bill was tabled on March 9th 2023 by Bugiri Municipality Member of Parliament Hon. Asuman Basalirwa as a private members bill titled “Anti-Homosexuality Bill 2023. It was later passed by Parliament on March 21st and referred to the President for signing as required by the Constitution before the bill becomes a law.
