Court Remands Hamza Kintu (Armed Beggar) to Luzira Prison

The Buganda road court has today, Wednesday 19th April 2023 remanded street beggar (armed beggar) Hamza Kintu alias Mayambala Mugabi to Luzira Prison on charges of unlawful possession of a gun and military fatigue without a valid firearm certificate, contrary to Sections 3(1) and 2(a) of the Firearm Act (as amended).

Hamza, 43 years old, appeared today in a wheel chair before the Magistrate Grade One HW Siena Owomugisha and denied all the charges preferred to him by the State prosecutors led by Lydia Nakato.

The accused (Kintu) has been remanded to Luzira until May 8th 2023, when he will return to court for prosecution witness hearing.

Hamza was arrested by security operatives on Tuesday 4th April 2023 in a wheel chair while on Kampala streets outside Kalungu Plaza in the central business area of the city.

Upon his arrest and interrogation, security conducted a search of his home, located in Biina Mutungo, a Kampala suburb, and recovered Army combat fatigues, ammunition, and other items.
