Lieutenant General Peter Elwelu, the Deputy Chief of Defense Forces (CDF), has appealed to Ugandans to remain patriotic despite political differences.

Elwelu revealed that disunity, hatred, and mistrust in government have been spotted as the major bottlenecks that have affected the development of our country.

He made the statement while presiding over the graduation of over 1,000 students drawn from eleven secondary schools in Kaberamaido district on Sunday, May 16, 2023.

“What has kept other countries together and prosperous is the love they have for their countries, people, and themselves,” Elwelu revealed.

He added that people believe in their countries’ leadership noting that Ugandans need to believe in everything they have because this land was given to us by the Almighty and we found ourselves here.

“We did not choose to be here, so whether we want it or not, we must love this environment, and no one will help us love this very environment except ourselves. There are no shortcuts,” he emphasized.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni launched a new national strategic program in 2009 to inculcate the norms and values of patriotism in all students in secondary schools and the youth of Uganda under the National Patriotic Program.

The program aims at encouraging students and teachers to become a new breed of enlightened citizens, committed to national service among other objectives.
