🇺🇬 Keith Muhakanizi to be accorded State burial
📌Government will accord Keith Muhakanizi, the former Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s office a State burial, Dr Chris Baryomunsi, Minister of ICT and National Guidance has said. Baryomunsi confirmed that Muhakanizi will be recognised for his contribution to the development of the country.
🇺🇬 UPDF soldiers under ATMIS put out of action 10 Al Shabaab militants
📌At least 10 Al Shabaab fighters were put out of action on Saturday after attempting to ambush UPDF soldiers serving under the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia. The UPDF contingent spokesperson in Somalia, Maj Peter Mugisa said that the terrorists attempted to ambush ATMIS forces who were on foot patrol from Janaale to Bufow. Mugisa urged the Al Shabaab militants to seeks to just surrender to ATMIS or to the Somali National Army.
🇺🇬 Kabaka urges Ugandans to be cautious of HIV/AIDS
📌The Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi has warned Ugandans to be cautious against HIV/AIDS and never to give up the fight against its spread. He made the remarks while flagging off thousands who participated in the Kabaka birthday run on Sunday.
“The fight against HIV/ AIDS is very crucial. Our people should remain healthy and should know how to prevent the spread of the virus. Don’t drop the guard,” Kabaka said.
🇺🇬 China firm gets contract to rehabilitate Tororo-Gulu railway line
📌The China Road and Bridge Corporation, CRBC, has signed a contract with the Governemnt to rehabilitate the 375km Tororo to Gulu section of the meter gauge railway line that runs through Mbale, Soroti, and Lira before terminating at the Gulu Logistics Hub (GLH). The signing was presided over by Al-Hajji Abdallatiff Dhakaba Wangubo, the Uganda Railways Corporation-URC Board Chairman. The rehabilitation works are scheduled to last 24 months.
🇺🇬 KCCA to construct access road to new Busega market
📌Kampala Capital City Authority-KCCA has commenced the construction of an access road to the new Busega market in Rubaga Division. Henry Bukenya, the Manager of Commercial Services at KCCA says the road forms part of the 70km funded under the one Trillion shillings acquired from the African Development Bank. The construction is expected to last at least six months.
🇺🇬 FORTPORTAL CITY: 37 disabled children get free surgery in week-long health camp
📌Children with deformed arms and legs have been operated on for free at a health camp held at Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital. Tooro Kingdom and Health of Mercy, a United States of America-based Non-governmental organization also working with the National Drug Authority held a week-long medical camp to offer free surgery. Queen Mother of Tooro Kingdom Best Kemigisa said that they have been getting offers from foreign specialists who are friends of her son King Oyo to offer free medical services in commemoration of his birthday.
🇺🇬 LUWEERO: MTN sponsors three- classroom block worth Shs200M
📌Horizon High School in Bombo, Luweero District has received a new fully equipped three-classroom block worth Shs202 Million courtsey of MTN Uganda and Ministry of Education. The MTN Foundation Senior Manager, Bryan Mbasa said that with this new three-classroom block fully equipped with furniture and a water tank, the school will expand access to 180 new learners, facilitate better instruction and improve on student outcomes.
🇺🇬 KOTIDO: Students at Morulem Boys Primary School starved
📌Authorities in Kotido District have raised concern over starvation of over 600 pupils at Morulem Boy’s Primary School boarding section. During a meeting on Saturday, the leaders observed that World Food Program (WFP) only provides lunch for both day scholars and those in boarding section and that the latter contribute 30kgs of maize and 20kgs of beans, is equivalent to Shs90,000. The school administrators say the boarding section has over 600 pupils whom they have failed to fend for.
🇺🇬 KIKUUBE: Police detains eight for encroaching Budongo Forest
📌Eight people are being detained at Kaseta Police post following their arrest by officials from the National Forestry Authority (NFA) after they were allegedly found cultivating inside Bugoma Forest Reserve in Kabwoya sub-county, Kikuube District. The suspects, whose identities were not disclosed, were arrested during a forest patrol exercise by NFA to verify the source of charcoal and timber that was impounded by NFA patrol team last week.
🇺🇬 MBALE: Construction works at Mbale Health Center II commences
📌The long awaited construction of a martenity ward and staff house at Mbale Health Center II is in progress. Patrick Akomera, the principal hospital administrator says upon completion, the health center will address the shortage of space in the hospital and reduce burden on the main hospital. He attributed the delay to the capital development fund that took long period without being released.
🇺🇬 KABALE: MP lobbies Muyebe SACCO members to embrace saving culture
📌While presiding over as a guest of honour on the Muyebe Twimukye SACCO’s annual general meeting at St. Peters Muyebe Church of Uganda premises, Hon Catherine Ndamira Atwakiire, the Woman MP Kabale District advised the SACCO members to develop saving culture in order to develop their families. Hon. Ndamira also cautioned those who acquire loans and misuse them to be careful as they are enemies of progress.

📌The Public Service Minister Hon. Muruli Mukasa has urged the youths to work hard, eliminate poverty and improve their household incomes. The Minister was officiating a one day workshop of 200 youths from Kagadi District at Uganda Rural Development & Training Institute (URDT) in Kagadi Town Council. He also introduced the new Government initiative of Skilling and provided capital to the youth to carryout income earning projects of their choice.

🌍 CODECO kills 48 people in eastern DR Congo
📌Suspected militants have killed at least 48 people in Democratic Republic of Congo’s north-eastern Ituri province. A series of attacks were carried out by the Cooperative for Development of the Congo (CODECO) and that more than 150 houses and shops were burnt and looted. According to Innocent Matukadala, a regional administrator, the attack and killings first took place in the towns of Kilo Etat, Matete and Itendy before spreading to other villages.
🌍 Chad shuts border with Sudan
📌The Chadian Governemnt announced Saturday that it was closing its 1,000kilometre (600 mile) border with Sudan, after battles erupted between rival military factions in the neighbouring country. Aziz Mahamat Saleh, the Government spokesperson said Government will secure its border until further notice.
🌍 Japan PM survives assassination attempt
📌Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida was evacuated unharmed on Saturday from a public event, with witnesses describing a person throwing an object, followed by smoke and a loud bang. Police said a 24-year-old Ryuji Kimura detained at the scene had been carrying a knife and a possible second explosive device.
