Yesterday, April 12, 2023, in Magere, Bobi Wine held a meeting with NUP leaders from Bukoto at his home and accused NUP MP Twaha Kagabo of supporting President Museveni, Speaker Anita Among and refusing to follow his instructions.
According to Bobi Wine, MP Kagabo does not know what the people who elected him want because he has diverted from their original beliefs of NUP and now works with the ruling NRM party.
“I would be happy if I could have seen your MP Kagabo here, but he isn’t here. As a leader, I’m telling you he crossed over and is no longer with us; of course, we stopped trusting him,” said Bobi Wine.
Bobi Wine further claimed that he (Kagabo) represents Banyarwanda, stating that he no longer represents NUP values but his personal interests.
“Kagabo went to radio and claimed that there are drugs in hospitals, yet we agreed to say there are no drugs, he then said that the people he represents have drugs. Only Banyarwanda have drugs in this country; are we to assume that he represents Banyarwanda?” Bobi Wine questioned.
However, according to MP Kagabo, his fallout with Bobi Wine is due to his refusal to participate in riots and unlawful gatherings demonstrating against medicines in hospitals and being a truth teller.
“Why would Bobi Wine call leaders from Bukoto, my constituency and instigate them against me? Does he want to stand as an MP in that area? Bobi Wine likes trading in tribalism and playing other tribes against each other, now he wants to punish me for refusing his confrontational politics. Because I refused to lead riots against medical supplies in hospitals,” Kagabo said.
“Being a doctor, I went to different hospitals and verified the existence of all kinds of drugs. I am an honest man, and I wouldn’t want to tell lies; the government has provided drugs; they are there,” Kabago added.
Kagabo also continued to state that the Kamwokya-based camp took a dislike to him when he refused to lie about the source of the Ugx40m that he returned.
“The NUP Kamwokya faction is angry at me for exposing their fraudulent ways; they asked me to lie about who gave me the 40 million, and when I didn’t, a vendetta was brought against me,” Kagabo stated.
In June 2022, Kagabo admitted to the IGG’s office that he had been coerced by his party leaders to fabricate the origin of the Ugx40 million that Bobi Wine had given him in order to frame the Speaker of Parliament.
Political analysts claim that the conflict between Bobi Wine and Kagabo occurs at a time when Bobi Wine is desperately trying to regain his lost popularity in Central Uganda by employing the most effective weapon in his arsenal: divide and rule.
