Omoro GISO, Two People Held Over Aggravated Robbery

Police in Omoro District have in custody the Gombolola Internal Security Officer (GISO) of Abuga Sub County and two others over allegations of aggravated robbery.

The suspects are identified as Michael Onen the GISO, Benasi Akena and Justine Kigega.

According to ASP David Ongom Mudong, the Aswa River regional Police Spokesperson, the suspects robbed five million shillings, 15 cartons of Supper match cigarettes from five suspected smugglers.

Ongom said that according to the preliminary report, the suspects waylaid and robbed five people who were accused of smuggling Super Match cigarettes from Sudan to Uganda through Abwoch Parish in the Omoro district,” Ongom said.

The suspected smugglers are identified as Mweru Emmanuel, Shibuata Rogers, Musa Vincent, Chibuata Richard, and Odeya Ronald all residents of Mbale District.

“They were traveling on three motorcycles using community roads in Abwoch Parish when they were apprehended by the GISO and some community members at a road block where they were assaulted, undressed and robbed of five million shillings, 15 cartons of cigarettes of Supper march,” he added.

Ongom, confirmed the report saying the police was notified by one Ozeba Martin, a resident of Bugema sub County in Mbale District who reported a case of aggravated robbery.

The police rushed to rescue the victims and evacuated them to St Mary’s Hospital Lacor for treatment.

As part of the investigations, statements where obtained from the victims and other relevant witnesses.

Mudong criticized the habit of attacking suspects, saying it diverts public attention and jeopardizes investigations.
