🇺🇬 President Museveni asks the people of Serere to vote for NRM’s Oucor
📌 President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has asked the people of Serere County to vote for NRM candidate Phillips Oucor in the forthcoming MP by-elections slated for February 23. The President was on Tuesday afternoon campaigning in Serere where he urged voters to embrace the NRM manifesto for effective development. The President also asked Teso leaders to mobilise and guide residents to embrace the Parish Development Model (PDM) to create wealth. He emphasised the need to vote for leaders not according to clans, religion, race, or tribes but rather to focus on leaders who will empower their communities and lobby for different services.

🇺🇬 Report shows HIV prevalence and rise in Mbarara District
📌Uganda population-based HIV Impact Assessment [UPHIA 2020-2021] indicates HIV prevalence in the Mbarara District has increased by 9.6 percent compared to the national average of 5.5 percent. The report was revealed by Christopher Nahabwe, HIV focal person in the district during a media café organised by the Health Journalists Network in Uganda [HJNU] at Oxford Hotel.

🇺🇬 Arua silver fish traders commence building Shs4bn silver fish store 
📌Arua Silver Fish Traders have started building their own silver fish store worth Shs4bn in order to bolster their business. Speaking at the weekend, Ms Zenna Ocokoru, 65, the chairperson of the group named Arua Women Business Enterprise, said they have so far raised Shs200m to begin the construction.
“Even if we don’t finish it, we shall leave it to our children because each individual has the next of kin in the agreement. We could not just look on when we are all surrounded by new and magnificent buildings,” she said.

🇺🇬 Minister Nobert Mao says he played key role in Segirinya, Ssewanyana release 
📌The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Nobert Mao has spoken out about the release of the two National Unity Platform (NUP) legislators on February 13 on bail granted by Masaka High Court. Speaking to the Media at the Democratic Party (DP) headquarters in Kampala, Mao confirmed that he was part of the key forces behind the release of the two legislators.

🇺🇬 Minister Tumwebaze asks parents to calm down over highly ranked schools
📌Frank Tumwebaze, the Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, has advised Ugandan parents to stop fighting for the few places in expensive and highly-ranked schools, but to instead consider taking their children to any school, including the rural ones. He cited that there was ‘unnecessary pressure’ for parents to secure their children admissions to top schools.

🇺🇬 Car owners to pay Shs735,000 for digital number plates 
📌Car owners and motorcyclists will have to part with Shs735,000 for the digital number plates. The Government in July 2021 signed an agreement with Russian company M/s Joint Stock Company Global Security to provide the country with number plates that can be digitally tracked with mounted tracking GPS chips in all automobiles in the country at the owner’s expense, and re-registration of all vehicles, motorcycles, and boats.

🇺🇬 Police develops technology to reveal forged number plates as new crime wave shoots 
📌Police have warned the public about the new crime wave where thugs conceal number plates of vehicles and use them to commit crime. The Deputy Spokesperson of Kampala Metropolitan Police,  Luke Owoyesigyire, said such cases are on the rise but Police have developed technology that helps to reveal the forged number plates.
“The Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras read and digitalise vehicles’ number plates in real time, ” he said.

🇺🇬 UPRS gives out artists licences
📌Uganda Performers Rights Society together with Standby promoters Limited have started giving out licences for people using songs in their businesses. These will run for a whole year and will be renewed after, this is aimed to give artists value for their music which they invest in a lot of money to produce. These will include DJs, hotels and restaurants.

🇺🇬 BUKEDEA: Govt aided schools  receive iron sheets
📌Government-aided schools in the sub counties of Kidongole, Kangole and Kabarwa have received iron sheets. The donation came from the office of the Right Honorable Speaker, Anita Annet Among who doubles as Woman Member of Parliament for the District. The delivery team was headed by her political assistant for Bukedea, Ms. Siporah Akol.

🇺🇬 NANSANA: Police investigates kidnap of  5-year-old girl
📌The territorial Police in Kampala Metropolitan North is investigating the alleged kidnap of a 5 year-old girl called Nansamba Zahara Muwonge, a pupil of Nabweru Community Nursery and Primary School who disappeared on February 17. The CCTV camera managed to capture a woman who was moving with the victim at around 7:30pm along Bwaise road heading towards Kafundu zone. It is  believed that the victim could still be in the areas of Nabweru, Nansana, Katooke, Bwaise and Kawempe for reasons excluding ransom and other monetary gains.

🇺🇬 TORORO: State Minister directs CAO to hand over official Government stamps to LCI and LCII 
📌The Office of the Chief Administrative Officer Tororo has been directed to immediately hand over official Government stamps to LCIs and LCIIs of Tororo County. The directive issued by State Minister for Defense Jacob Oboth Oboth comes after the village chairpersons spent nearly three years without the key administrative instruction. The stamps were withdrawn after 400 villages in the county refused to take part in the 2018 lower local government elections.

🇺🇬 HOIMA: Suspected land grabbers lynched to death 
📌Police in Hoima is investigating circumstances that led to the death of two alleged land grabbers lynched by victimized locals. This was in Rwobunyonyi Village, in Buraru Parish in Kyabigambire Sub-county, where one Asaba Kelvin and Kiiza, the alleged  land grabbers were beaten to death.

🇺🇬 LUUKA: Electricity connection to trap thieves electrocutes home owner 
📌Police in Luuka District are investigating circumstances under which Mr. Sulait Kaganda, 50, a businessman of Lumbuye Zone in Bulango ward, Bulango Town Council died after being electrocuted by live electricity wires he had connected in his compound to trap thieves. According to Michael Kasadha, the Busoga north region spokesperson, the deceased was attacked by a thief in his home and in the process of chasing him, he stepped on a live electricity wire before being electrocuted to death.

🇺🇬 RUKIGA: Man jailed for aggravated defilement 
📌A Court in Rukiga District has jailed a one Dan Ndebesa, 27, a resident of Rushoroza village for aggravated defilement. Ndebesa was handed the sentence after he pleaded guilty to the offence of defiling a neighbour’s three-year-old daughter while appearing before Kabale High Court Judge, Samuel Emokor.

🌍 Tanzania approves Uganda Oil Pipeline 
📌Tanzanian Government gave its approval on Tuesday for the construction of a $3.5 billion crude oil pipeline. The 1,443-kilometre (900-mile) pipeline will transport crude from vast oil fields being developed in Lake Albert in northwestern Uganda to a Tanzanian port on the Indian Ocean. The pipeline required approval from both countries, and last month Uganda issued a licence to the project operator, the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP).

🌍 KENYA: Comedian Eric Omondi leads demonstration, arrested outside Parliament 
📌Comedian Eric Omondi has been arrested while leading a demonstration outside Parliament buildings in Nairobi. Omondi was leading a group of well-built, shirtless young men in demonstrations, demanding the Government to lower the cost of living. The youths donning black shorts and bare chests had brought business around Parliament to a standstill.

🌍 DRC: M23 rebels, Army clash in Eastern region
📌 Fighting resumed on Monday between the Democratic Republic of Congo’s army and M23 rebels in the country’s troubled East, just days after African leaders called for a ceasefire and a pullback by armed groups.
“There have been clashes with the M23 in the Kitshanga area, northwest of the main eastern city of Goma,” a security source said.

🌍 SOUTH AFRICA: Johannesburg to build solar farm to avoid power cuts 
📌A provincial Government in South Africa plans to spend 1.2bn rand ($66m; £55m) on building a solar farm in order to shield itself from the country’s energy crisis. Gauteng’s Premier Panyaza Lesufi said this was part of the province’s plan to generate its own electricity and lessen its dependence on the state power firm Eskom.

🌍 BURKINA FASO: Jihadists attack leaves at least 51 soldiers dead
📌At least 51 soldiers were killed in an ambush by suspected jihadists in northern Burkina Faso, where attacks by terrorist armed groups have intensified since the beginning of the year. This ambush in the Sahel region bordering Mali and Niger which was announced by the army on Monday, could prove to be the deadliest ever committed against the security forces.

🌍 UN, Malawian partners plead for $45.3m aid for Cholera Emergency 
📌The UN and Malawian humanitarian partners on Monday said they are appealing for $45.3 Million to assist 4 Million people devastated by the country’s deadliest Cholera outbreak in recent history. As of Monday, Malawi had recorded 1,476 deaths and 46,219 cases of cholera since the outbreak in March, which has affected all the 29 districts of the country. According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the funding will support the Malawi Government-led response over the next five months.

🌍 UN troops killed in Mali
📌Three United Nations peacekeepers were killed on Tuesday in Central Mali, the UN mission said.
“A MINUSMA Force convoy hit an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) today,” the UN force said in a tweet that gave a preliminary toll of three dead, five injured.
