🇺🇬 President Museveni warns Army against sectarianism and brutality
📌 H.E Yoweri Museveni has cautioned the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces against sectarianism and adopting brutality and corruption of the past regimes. The President reminisced on how the 6th of February marked the change of events after the attack on Kabamba that ushered in the new Government. He made the remarks on Monday during the 42nd Tarehe Sita celebrations at Kakyeeka Stadium in Mbarara District.
🇺🇬 Schools reopen for first term of the new 2023 academic year
📌Schools across the country have Monday Febuary 06, 2023 reopened for the first term of the new academic year. The Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga encouraged school owners and headteachers to adhere to protection policy of children so that safety of children is a prioritised.
🇺🇬 Makerere University reinstates Bachelor of Environmental Sciences Programme
📌Makerere University has reinstated the Bachelor of Environmental Sciences (BEVS) course. This, according to the Office of the University Secretary, was confirmed during the Council’s 158th meeting held on 8th December 2022. The course will be under the Department of Environmental Management, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAEs).
🇺🇬 Joint Security cracks down suspected ADF cell in Butaleja District
📌Police and other Security agencies are holding a suspected leader of the Allied Democratic Front rebel group, Mansur Musinguzi and six other suspected ADF accomplices. The suspects were picked up in Nabala Village in Butaleja District along with 55 men, women, youths and children. The North Bukedi Police Spokesperson, Moses Mugwe said the suspects were planning an ADF cell in the area.
🇺🇬 Man awarded Shs6M in damages for wrongful detention by Police 20 years ago
📌The Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) Tribunal headed by the chairperson Mariam Wangadya on Monday directed Government to pay for damages to one Grace Kyaterekera a tune of Shs6 Million over wrongful detention by Police in 2003.
“The complaint is allowed and the Attorney General is ordered to pay the complainant a total sum of shs6 million as general damages for the violation of his right to liberty,” the tribunal directed.
🇺🇬 Joshua Karamagi is the new UETCL CEO
📌Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) has appointed Joshua Karamagi as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) replacing George Rwabajungu who resigned in August 2022. According to UETCL’s statement, Karamagi will assume his new role on March 1, 2023. Karamagi has been serving at Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL) as the chief finance officer, since 2015.
🇺🇬 Man forced to abandon home over life-threatening smoke from neighbouring factory
📌 Gordon Katongole has been forced to abandon a family home he built in Kayembe village, Kasangati Town Council, after fumes from a neighbouring factory nearly led to the death of his children. During an interview on Monday, Katongole explained that He is now renting as his children recover the near fatal experience of inhaling fumes from Felms factory, a plastic manufacturing plant.
🇺🇬 UWA delays Shs5b electric fence work over impact assessment report
📌The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has stopped electric fencing around Murchison Falls National Park that was aimed at mitigating the longstanding human-wildlife conflict in Nwoya District. Mr. Wilson Kagoro, the community conservation warden at the park, said they halted the exercise due to the lack of an environmental and social Impact assessment report.
“We are only awaiting the Government’s approval of the environmental impact assessment to commence the installation of electric fence, without it, we cannot go ahead,” Mr Kagoro said.

📌Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa has called for collective efforts from all Ugandans to bring to an end road accidents in the country. He was addressing the press before flagging off Joe Walker’s Kampala to Mbale road safety awareness trek. Tayebwa said road safety requires joint efforts and is not a preserve for a few advocates.

📌The State Minister for Urban Development, Mario Obiga Kania has asked for more training and an increase in capacity for land acquisition experts and valuers to reduce refugee settlement conflicts in Government projects. He made the revelations as he presided over the conclusion of a training session for 30 land valuers, who had undertaken a land acquisition course at the Institute of Surveys and Land Management in Entebbe.

📌Parents of Lwandubi Primary School in Namabya Sub County, Namisindwa District have locked out the Head teacher accusing him of consistent poor performance at Primary Leaving Examination, incompetence, financial indiscipline and overstaying at school. Parents who were gathered at the school on Monday accused Wilson Mabala, the headmaster of abuse of office, causing a decline in student enrollment from 1,000 to less than 200 and failing to organize the Annual General Meeting. According to Robert Malemo, a parent, says the school has consistently performed poorly in PLE for the last six years.

📌The Masaka Regional Referral Hospital administration with the help of Uganda Police has intensified vigilance and monitoring of alleged intruders suspected to be behind an extortion ring targeting patients as well as the theft of drugs. Charles Tumusiime, the hospital administrator explained that Security has been tightened at the hospital’s main gate and the wards have levels showing free treatment services together with telephone numbers put to curb the vice.

🌍 DRC: Youths in Goma protest EAC Regional Force
📌Congolese youths on Monday held demonstrations in the city of Goma, North Kivu, in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, alleging the East African Community Regional Force (EACRF) was passive to armed groups. They have protested in the streets, erecting road barricades, forcing businesses to close, demanding the departure of the troops from the country.

📌A delegation of experts from the East African Community have concluded a verification exercise intended to assess Somalia’s readiness to join the EA regional bloc. 📌 Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki on Monday said that all children born in Kenya will soon be assigned a unique identification number at birth that will later be used in school and eventually become their national identity number, social security number, health insurance number and eventually the death certificate number.
🌍 Tigray set to restart banking services after Ethiopia sends $90M
📌The Ethiopian Government said on Saturday that it was sending about $90 million to the Tigrayan capital to help restart banking services in the country. Prime Minister Abiy’s national security advisor, Redwan Hussein, announced on Twitter that the National Bank had started to send the money to the capital Mekele for distribution from Monday.

📌Ethiopians were voting on Monday in a referendum on the creation of a 12th regional state in the south of the country, the third such ballot in under four years. 📌Activists and human rights organizations are calling on Nigerian authorities to urgently address violence that is surrounding the upcoming elections that are scheduled for February 25. A report released Monday by the Human Rights Watch said the West African nations February 25 polls are under threat and that it is important that outgoing President Muhammadu Buhari put in place security measures that will stop the ongoing attacks on electoral institutions and staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
🌍 Pope calls Anti-LGTBQ laws ‘sinful’
📌Pope Francis said on Sunday that laws criminalising LGBT people are a sin and an injustice because God loves and accompanies people with same-sex attraction.
“This is not right. Persons with homosexual tendencies are children of God. God loves them. God accompanies them, condemning a person like this is a sin. Criminalizing people with homosexual tendencies is an injustice,” Francis said.
