Uganda National Drug Authority (UNDA) has vowed to provide technical support in research, development and use of herbal medicine in Tooro kingdom.

This was revealed yesterday 25th January 2023, when a team from UNDA held a strategic meeting with King Oyo’s officials led by the Prime Minister Steven Kiyingi and his two Deputies at the kingdom headquarters.

The meeting was led by the UNDA chairperson Dr. Bitekyerezo Medard and the Authority’s Public Relations Manager Abiaz Rwamwiri.

“We are establishing a partnership that will help to strengthen herbal medicine research, control of drug hawking and substance abuse among others,” Abiaz said.

UNDA entered a memorandum of understanding with the Kingdom to promote public health and handed over furniture worth SHS10 million to the Kingdom.

Premier Steven Kiyingi thanked the authority for the opportunity it has given the herbalists in the Kingdom and all around the country.

“It is a very good thing that UNDA has recognized that herbal medicine is an important element in the medical services,” Kiyingi said.

He promised to sit down with other officials to mobilize genuine herbalists and form a team to be handed to UNDA for training.

According to Kiyingi, the Kingdom will play a crucial role in promoting responsible drug use and in preventing drug trafficking and addiction.
