Minister of State for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs Hon. Kyofatogabye Kabuye presented  a statement released by the Minister for Presidency stating that President YK Museveni will be officiating the Liberation day celebrations this year.

In a media briefing held on 20th January 2023, at the Media Centre, Hon. Kyofatogabye addressed journalists about the 37th NRA/M Victory day Anniversary celebrations that are due to take place on 26th January, 2022.

“Unlike the previous years since the Covid-19 outbreak in 2020 that had forced such celebrations to be limited to few invited and tested guests, this time round, the general public is invited to come in big numbers and celebrate,” Kyofatogabye stated.

According to the Minister, this year’s celebrations will be held in Kakumiro District.

“The celebrations will be held at Kakeeka Grounds in Kakumiro district beginning at 8:00am. The Chief Guest will be President Yoweri Museveni who will be joined by many other invited guests,” said the Minister.

According to the Minister, the President will award 50 various categories of medals to those that have been selected.

To maintain the SOPs for Covid-19, the Minister said that testing will be limited to 600 guests that will be seated in the VVIP tent, the journalists and parade participants.

Different activities including a parade mounted by the officers and men of the UPDF, Uganda Police, Prisons and Uganda Wildlife Authority will be held.

Liberation day is celebrated every year on 26th January as the day President Museveni with fellow revolutionaries stormed Kampala, captured state power and liberated Ugandans from the tyrannical regime.
