We have all, at some point, heard about the famous ‘foot soldiers’ in Uganda. For those who have not heard about them, foot soldiers are mostly youth that are being used by opposition parties to incite violence and cause damage during riots, demonstrations and any big gatherings.
They are paid to head demonstrations and strikes, and get on social media to abuse and humiliate anyone who doesn’t agree with their bosses including some opposition members of parliament.
These foot soldiers are not actual soldiers in any army but that doesn’t stop them from using army ranks and donning army like uniforms.
Sources state that whereas the foot soldiers can be used by most opposition political parties, they are mostly associated with the National Unity Platform (NUP).
According to sources in NUP that preferred anonymity, they put on the red berets and the red uniforms as required by their employers.
“They are fully recognized by the party and are on monthly payments plus allowances,” a party member stated.
“Some will wonder where this money is got from but it’s somehow self-explanatory this money is got from the party donors, the ‘Bazungu’,” the source revealed.
According to authorities, the funds used to pay the foot soldiers were traced back to foreign donors who want to disrupt the peace and stability in Uganda.
“These ‘donors’ pay the young men some little money to cause chaos and havoc, to paint a picture of insecurity in Uganda, they are trying to cause political sabotage and disrupt the peace in Uganda,” an authority stated.
The main question we should ask ourselves is, why is the NUP political party and its president okay with hooliganism and painting Uganda as insecure?
Is it because before Kyagulanyi became a politician, he was the ghetto president and the head of the fire base crew which terrorized Kampala with robberies and murders? Or is it because he and other NUP party leaders are too greedy and are willing to sell Uganda to the highest bidder?
