On January 16, 2023, the leader of the opposition in Parliament admitted that opposition parties are currently more divided than previously, adding that it’s the reason why their political support has continued to dwindle.
His remarks come hardly a day after over 40 FDC members defected to the National Unity Platform.
According to LoP Mpuuga, the current fights among opposition parties are threatening NUP’s support in the country.
On Sunday, the National Unity Platform unveiled the FDC Secretary for Labour and National Executive Committee, Habib Buwembo, alongside 47 other FDC members who had denounced their party.
Buwembo, a renowned critic of president Museveni on January 12,2023 announced that he had resigned from his position as the secretary for labour, NEC member and withdrawn membership from FDC.
Godber Tumushabe, a political analyst, described the latest defection of FDC members to the NUP as evidence of the dwindling support of opposition parties.
He noted that this signifies the deepening infighting among opposition parties in the country.
A week ago, the NUP secretary general, under the orders of party president Robert Kyagulanyi, suspended five leaders from the Busoga region, accusing them of bickering and infighting both in public and on social media.
