Erias Lukwago, the Lord Mayor of Kampala City, has been making headlines for a variety of reasons in recent weeks, most notably for the stern warning in Gen. Saleh’s trending short and precise letter.

The Lord Mayor has since tried every tactic to divert the public’s attention from the humiliating letter directing him to come out publicly and kneel before the beloved General.

On December 4, 2023, the Lord Mayor and his stick-wielding Deputy, Doreen Nyanjura, among others, staged a press conference in which many anticipated that the motor mouthed mayor would apologize to Gen. Saleh like he was ordered.

Instead, he used the press conference to present KCCA’s 31 road projects in the pipeline throughout the city, hurling allegations and accusations at “invisible” cartels and the mafia for inflating prices in an attempt to spark a different kind of debate in the media.

This has been viewed by many as a desperate move by the mayor, purposefully diverting the public from the famous but shocking revelation by Gen. Saleh that has been haunting him, according to close sources.

Unfortunately, all his claims have felt flat like a depleted rotten sack of mangoes and have been subsequently refuted, and some have considered them laughably baseless. The KCCA’s spokesperson, Simon Kasyate, dismissed the claims, describing them as laughable and misinformed.

“The tenders for the construction of these roads were advertised internationally, and the lowest bidder for each road was picked following the finance agreement procedures of the bank (ADB).Again, what authority is the Lord Mayor using to calculate what road construction costs? “Let the mayor come out empirically to show us how he arrived at the value he claims to be the actual one for the roads,” said Mr. Kasyate.

It should be noted that last week, on December 31st, 2022, a letter from Gen. Saleh to Erias Lukwago leaked, which has since spurred different theories among the population pondering which other opposition players there might be who have been in the big man’s pocket.

Fortunately for the case of Lukwago, just like other opposition pretenders, analysts have proven that he had been in bed with the regime’s big shots.
