While attending what security termed “illegal end of year prayers” held in Nsambya in Kampala by the Forces of Change on December 31st, former FDC party presidential candidate, Col. (Rtd) Dr. Kizza Besigye, openly attacked his wife, Winnie Byanyima, the Executive Director for the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), for applauding President Yoweri Museveni for prioritizing women’s emancipation.

“I don’t usually agree with the man in the hat, but I salute him for giving young women the opportunity to lead,” UNAIDS boss Byanyima tweeted, a post that has since led to her husband’s death.

FDC Besigye blasted his wife for massaging with the dictator’s government in a speech delivered outside the Nsambya Sharing Hall on Saturday after being blocked by security.

He claimed the current parliament is under siege by the government and that there is nothing good and positive about the current regime, an argument contrary to what UNAIDS ED Byanyima had stated a week earlier.

In her statement, Byanyima elaborately praised the NRM government and specifically President Museveni for guaranteeing women huge space for leadership in the country.

Livingstone Kizito, the former FDC youth chairman in charge at Kampala Metropolitan, described Dr. Besigye as a political hypocrite, disgruntled, and arrogant who believes he is the only person best suited to lead.

“Col. is bitter and spitting fire here, well knowing these forces of change are a show off, he was hurt by the wife’s statements, and that is why he is going after Museveni’s family in his speech,” Kizito said.

Kizito noted that the Forces of Change group is just meant to attract donor funds to Dr. Besigye.

“This has nothing to do with regime change by some opposition. Besigye is just angry and disgruntled with other oppositions like NUP since he was overshadowed,” Kizito argued.
