🇺🇬 Government to recruit 2000 teachers
📌Un employed secondary school teachers will start the New Year on a good note after the Education and Sports Ministry announced openings that will be filled effective January 2023.
“We are looking at about 2,000 teachers being recruited to fill seed schools, the 600 forgeries we ejected, those who have retired, and the Local Governments that received wage for hire,” the Ministry’s spokesperson, Dennis Mugimba, said yesterday.

The road that stretches from Bwaise roundabout to the traffic lights, up to Gaddafi National Mosque has deep potholes that cause many motorists to fumble around yet there is nowhere they can divert from as the deep potholes stretch up to the turn that leads to the Law Development Center. The area becomes waterlogged whenever it rains making it impassable for motorists and boda boda riders.
🇺🇬 President Museveni fulfils oxen pledge for Nodding Disease- affected families
📌President Museveni has fulfilled a pledge of delivering 208 oxen to families affected by Nodding Disease Syndrome in Pader District. On May 11, 2014, while addressing the Girls’ Sacco Annual General Meeting in Pader, President Museveni pledged to support families with Nodding Syndrome patients with oxen and ox-ploughs. During the 2016 election period, the families only received the ox ploughs. Last week, Ms Jane Barekye, the State House Comptroller, delivered the 208 oxen to beneficiaries at a ceremony at Awere Health Centre III in Awere Sub-county.
🇺🇬 10 killed, hundreds displaced by floods in Rakai District
📌Floods have killed at least 10 people and more than 400 families have been displaced in Rakai District. Stanley Ndawula, the Information Minister of Kooki Chiefdom has confirmed that heavy rainfall that started on December 20 caused the Rwizi River and Lake Kijjanibarora to overflow, submerging several nearby villages, and that floodwaters have also reached the main palace of Kooki chiefdom. Ndawula saysmthe Kibaale bridge which leads to the highway that connects to Kampala is also at risk of being swept away.
🇺🇬 Kisoro man murders biological father
📌The territorial police in Kisoro have in custody a man suspected of murdering his biological father. Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate identified the suspect as Pafura Munezero a resident of Gafurizo village, Karambi parish, Nyarubuye Sub County in Kisoro District. Maate says that the case was reported to Police by Habumuremyi Maxim, 50, the area chairperson, who said that last Wednesday at around 9:00 AM, the suspect hit his father with a hoe on the head for reasons not yet known, injuring him critically. The suspect then went into hiding.

📌Commonwealth gold medalist, Jacob Kiplimo has unveiled the “Discovery Uganda Championships” to identify young talents. According to Kiplimo, he will use the Championship set for January 23, 2023, to spot and support young talents. Kiplimo says that most talented athletes give up due to the lack of opportunities to expose their talents.
“We are soon upgrading in marathon, and Uganda deserves to have another Kiplimo-like talent to fill the Track and Cross Country gap, where Uganda has registered great victories in international competitions,” he said.

📌Hon Musa Francis Ecweru, the Member of Parliament for Amuria County has called for Hepatitis B screening exercise in Amuria and Soroti. This comes after the death of Rev. Canon Justine Okello Emwogo, the Archdeacon of Amuria Archdeaconry in church of Uganda who succumbed to Hepatitis B. Ecweru said the late Archdeacon succumbed to hepatitis B according to medical reports but a section of the church leadership chose to peddle propaganda that he was poisoned. He said that the church leaders and the Christians buried the deceased without observing the standard operating procedures as was issued from Kiruddu Hospital where the deceased died.

🌍 KENYA: President Ruto says he is ‘prioritizing rebuilding Kenyan economy destroyed by former regime’
📌Kenya’s President William Ruto has accused the Opposition of harassing him for failing to deliver on his campaign promises, just 100 days into office. Ruto says he remembers all the pledges he made, mainly coming up with plans to lower the cost of living, after the prices of key commodities increased, such as maize flour, used to prepare Ugali, a staple food in the country.
“Those trying to harass me, I tell them to come slowly. I’m prioritising rebuilding the foundation of our economy that was destroyed by the former regime,” he said.
🌍 DRC: Court sentences soldiers to death for killing two Chinese nationals
Eight Congolese soldiers and a civilian were sentenced to death, on appeal, by a Military Court in Ituri province in the northeast of the Democratic Republic of Congo, judicial sources said on Tuesday. Two of the eight were high-ranking colonels. Prosecution said that the two Colonels had organised and planned an attack on a convoy carrying Chinese workers in Irumu territory, Ituri, with the aim of stealing four gold bars and 5,600 euros carried by the victims. The convoy, which was returning from a gold mining site, was attacked at Nderemi village on March 17, 2022. Two Chinese nationals were killed and their civilian driver was injured.
🌍 DRC: M23 rebels kidnap civilians
📌M23 rebels in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo are holding civilians hostage for suspected collaboration with enemy militias as fighting erupted despite recent peace efforts, local sources said. At least 18 civilians were still in rebel hands, suspected of working with an anti-M23 armed group, the Nyatura, and the FDLR, a militia with Rwandan Hutu origins.
🌍 SOMALIA: President Mohamud says majority of paid Government workers are ‘ghosts’
📌Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has said that 3,500 out of 5,000 of the vast majority of paid Government workers are neither in the country nor working. President Mohamud talked about the so-called ghost workers while addressing officials during prayers at the presidential mosque. Civil servants are more than 5,000, he said, but only 1,500 are present. Somalia’s Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre admitted the problem and ordered Ministries to inspect and ensure that staff follow working hours.
🌍 US: Supreme Court maintains infamous immigration policy
📌The United States Supreme Court has temporarily kept in place Title 42, an infamous immigration policy that has been criticised for denying refugees the ability to seek asylum in the US. The Court’s decision to take up the case means Title 42 will remain in place for the indefinite future, dashing the hopes of rights groups who have characterised it as arbitrary and illegal.
“We are deeply disappointed for all the desperate asylum seekers who will continue to suffer because of Title 42, but we will continue fighting to eventually end the policy,” said Lee Gelernt, a lawyer with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), which has sued for an end to the policy.

📌The popular Chinese video app TikTok has been banned from all US House of Representatives-managed devices, according to the House’s administration arm, mimicking a law soon to go into effect banning the app from US government devices. The new rule follows a series of moves by U.S. State governments to ban TikTok, owned by Beijing-based ByteDance Ltd, from government devices. As of last week, states had at least partially blocked the app from state-managed devices over concerns that the Chinese government could use the app to track Americans and censor content.
