The Church of Uganda states that it will break away from its mother church in England should it take a positive stand in support of allowing same sex – marriage and ordaining LGBTQ clergy.
According to the Arch-Bishop Church of Uganda The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, the Church of Uganda will not waste time breaking away as their stand on the matter is firm and does not support the liberal provinces of England.
“The church I head will always uphold biblical teachings that marriage is between one man and one woman,” said Archbishop Kaziimba.
He further called upon the government to set up mechanisms in which children who are being recruited into homosexuality can report such individuals, and warned parents, teachers and students against the people attracting them into evil acts.
“To those who are recruiting children into homosexuality, I want to sound a very strong warning to you. These are not my words, but the words of Jesus: ‘If anyone causes one of these little ones…to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea,” said Archbishop Kazimba.
According to media sources, friction has been brewing globally in the Anglican Communion over its 42 provinces with sharp differences, where some strongly support Homosexuality and others sternly opposed to it- notably from Africa and Asia.
This division came into light in August 2022, at the communion’s Lambeth conference, that is held once every decade to bring together bishops from around the world with Anglican affiliated churches. The previous one was held in 2008, where gay and lesbian bishops were invited, which led to a lot of resistance and threats of breaking away.
It is with this background that the Arch-Bishop of the church of Uganda has issued a serious warning to the Church of England, that should such acts be allowed they will have no choice but break away.
According to the Ugandan law homosexuality is an “unnatural act” that ought to be outlawed.
“A person who performs a sexual act with another person contrary to the order of nature, performs a sexual act with a person of the same gender, a person who attempts to commit an unnatural offense, commits a felony is liable on conviction for imprisonment for five years,” Oboth-Oboth argued before parliament — a view that is apparently echoed by many Ugandans.
