Uganda has received a total of 1200 doses of trial vaccines against the Sudan Ebola Virus (SEV).The vaccines were delivered to the Ministry of Health on December 8, 2022, by the World Health Organization.
While receiving the vaccines, Health Minister, Dr. Jane Ruth Acheng, said they will be kept at the National Medical Stores pending trial on high-risk individuals or those who are most exposed to the risk of infection.
“We have received 1200 doses of one of the three candidate vaccines against the Sudan Ebola virus from WHO. This will be used in the Tokomeza Ebola Clinical Tria,” Dr. Acheng tweeted.
Dr. Acheng also revealed that Uganda is the first country to receive the trial vaccines, and more doses are expected to arrive in the country in the coming weeks.
The clinical trial vaccine code-named “Tokomeza” will be spearheaded by the Makerere University Lung Institute, led by Bruce Kirenga.
