The National Unity Platform (NUP) party principal, Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine, has admitted that the arrest of the two NUP legislators, Muhammad Ssegirinya and Alan Ssewanyana, has helped to end the machete-wielding, commonly known as Bijambiya, that had rocked the greater Masaka sub-region after the 2021 general elections.

“If you remember how the arrest of our two MPs helped to stop the Bijambiya killings in Masaka, don’t be shocked when the current wave of attacks on security installations is also connected to our leaders.” Bobi Wine tweeted.

The NUP principal also said that the restoration of peace and security in the greater Masaka area was a result of the arrest of opposition supporters, mostly youths, by the security agencies.

Bobi Wines’ comments followed the trend of recent attacks targeting different security installations, killing security personnel and robbing them of guns. He said the attackers are not mere criminals, but they are politically motivated to push certain political agendas which he never revealed.

The pair is being held in detention, accused of having a hand in and being the masterminds behind a wave of killings that shook the Masaka sub-region last year.

They are charged with four different counts, including murder, attempted murder, treason, and terrorism.

The wave of machete-wielding thugs left close to 30 people dead, mostly elderly, in a period of just two months.

However, with the arrest of the two legislators and other suspects, the wave of killings that had shocked the nation ceased.
