The police in KMP North and Kakiri have finally arrested Mugenyi William, a 17-year-old suspect in the Kakiri trafficking case who had been evading capture for nearly a month.
On August 29, around 3:00 p.m., a total of 179 victims were rescued and taken to Kakiri police station for the necessary arrangements to facilitate their return to their respective homes.
According to the Police spokesperson, SCP Fred Enanga, Mugenyi, a high school student in S.3 at Kapeeka Senior Secondary School in Nakasekke, had kept the victims at Nasuna Harriet’s home in Nampunge village, Wakiso.
Enanga said that the police located and apprehended the suspect in Kyondo, Kapeeka, and subsequently brought him to court.
“When questioned, he admitted that he intended to extort money from the victims by falsely using the name of a legitimate company based in Kenya, despite having no affiliation with it,” Enanga explained.
“He also confessed that the job advertisements he posted for waiters, waitresses, supermarket attendants, and coffee packers were completely fraudulent, serving solely to lure unsuspecting individuals,” Enanga added.
He has been charged with 170 counts of human trafficking.
