🇺🇬 *303 people were hurt on the road- Traffic Police*
📌The Police’s traffic report indicates that there were 217 accidents registered between the 9th and the 14th of January this year. The Spokesperson of the Directorate of traffic and road safety, Faridah Nampiima says these accidents involved 303 victims and of those, 56 died.

🇺🇬 *MPs protest budget cuts*
📌Members of Parliament have protested the continued slashing of the Uganda Police Force budget. This after the MPs learned that the Police would get 823 billion shillings in the next financial year. The MPs say the Police need more money to fight increasingly sophisticated crimes.

🇺🇬 *IGG investigates mismanagement of KCCA Covid funds*
📌Speaking at the flagging off of the seven new ambulances procured by KCCA to boost health service delivery in the five City Divisions on Monday, the Lord Mayor of Kampala, Erias Lukwago said that the  Inspectorate of Government (IGG) has kick-started investigations into the alleged mismanaged Shs4 Billion that was meant to be used in the fight against Covid-19 in vaccination, enforcing the standard operating procedures, procuring ambulances to offer emergency response, establishing a mobile laboratory among others.

🇺🇬 *NIRA to procure new system*
The Manager Registration and Operations at NIRA, Edwin Tukamuhebwa has said that they are procuring a new system that is expected in the country by June before the exercise of mass registration kicks off in July. Tukamuhebwa says services will be free of charge and a fee will be charged to only those whose IDs got lost as well as those who want to change names and dates of birth.

🇺🇬 *NCHE extends application deadline to apply for University charters*
📌National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) is extending the deadline for Universities to apply for charters. According to Professor Mary Okwakol, the Executive Director of the Council, the earlier deadline was March 2023, however, due to disruptions brought  by Covid-19, an extension is being considered and the new date will be decided following the Council meeting. Okwakol says that 32 private universities are operating under provisional licenses.

🇺🇬 *Court dismisses case filed by Justice Kanyeihamba*
📌Five Justices of the Constitutional Court including Fredrick Egonda-Ntende, Elizabeth Musoke, Christopher Madrama, Monica Mugenyi and Christopher Gashirabake have dismissed a petition filed by Retired Supreme Court Judge George William Kanyeihamba seeking to restrain President Museveni from threatening to withhold bail to suspects ruling that Prof Kanyeihamba filed his petition before the wrong Court.

🇺🇬 *KCCA receives seven modern ambulances*
📌Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has received seven ambulances to boost health service delivery in the five divisions of the City. These were procured at Shs1.6 Billion costing Shs230 Million each. While flagging off the ambulances to the City divisions at City Hall, the Lord Mayor of Kampala, Erias Lukwago asked City Mayors to ensure the ambulances provide quick and emergency services without discrimination. Lukwago urged them to take good care of the vehicles.

🌍 *SOUTH AFRICA: President Ramaphosa cancels  WEF trip*
📌South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has scrapped plans to attend the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos because of the energy crisis affecting the country. Presidential spokesman Vincent Magwenya explained that Ramaphosa was due to lead a Government delegation to the WEF event in the Swiss Alps next week but will instead remain home to hold talks with State-owned power utility Eskom.

📌A South African Court has halted a private prosecution against President Cyril Ramaphosa initiated by former President Jacob Zuma. Zuma accuses the President of failing to act against a State prosecutor and a journalist for allegedly disclosing his confidential medical records.

🌍 *TUNISIA: Demonstrators call on President Kais Saied to step down*
📌Hundreds of people in the Tunisian Capital have taken to the streets in demonstrations against President Kais Saied. Angry crowds protested against the deterioration of their living conditions, against a backdrop of increased political divisions. Supporters of the Islamist-inspired Ennahdha party called for Saied who took power in July 2021 to step down.

🌍 *Pakistani launches Anti-Polio drive*
📌Pakistani launched its first anti-Polio campaign of the year targeting 44.2 million children under the age of five. Pakistan and Afghanistan are the only two countries in the world where Polio continues to threaten the health and well-being of children. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif kicked off the nationwide drive by administering Polio drops to children in the Capital, Islamabad. Pakistan is also among the few countries that still suffer from the disease.
