๐บ๐ฌย President Museveni to open judgesโ annual conference next week
๐President Museveni will on Monday open this yearโs annual judges conference at Mestil Hotel in Kampala, the Judiciary has announced. Addressing journalists on Friday, Justice Damalie Lwanga, the Executive Director of the Judicial Training Institute said over 300 guests will attend the conference to be held from January 30 to February 2.

๐President Yoweri Museveni on Thursday warned District Service Commission officials selling Local Government jobs for money including asking for sex advances in exchange for jobs. He made the remarks while presiding over theย 37th NRM Liberation Day celebrations in Kakumiro District.
โI have heard of girls being exploited sexually as bribes for jobs. Get evidence, please, devoted members of the public and we expunge and roast those pigs.โ he said.ย

๐The State House Anti-corruption Unit (SH-ACU) headed by Brig. Gen Henry Isoke said the unit recovered Ugx35bn from those that stole public funds. The SH-ACU 2022 report shows that the Unit arraigned in Court over 448 suspects, out of which 70 were convicted.
๐บ๐ฌย Luzira inmates excel in PLE exams
๐It was jubilation at Upper Maximum Prison, Luzira on Friday as most inmates passed 2022 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE). UNEB Executive Director Dan Odongo said that out of the 68 that registered for PLE, 63 sat while only five missed out. The results show that five inmates passed in division one, 34 passed in division two while nine passed in division three and seven in division four.ย

๐Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL), a subsidiary of Diageo/East Africa Breweries Limited (EABL), in a statement on Friday, announced the appointment of Mark Ocitti as their new managing director effective March 1, 2023. Mark Ocitti brings over 20 yearsโ experience of business leadership in beverages, oil and gas, and telecom sectors. Ociti replaces John Musunga who left KBL in October 2021, to join Guinness Nigeria.
๐บ๐ฌ KOBOKO: Two teenagers die in disco hall stampede
๐ The North Division chairperson Moses Lemeriga has confirmed that two teenage girls died on Friday nightย following a stampede that happened in a disco hall at Ombachi cell in the North Division of Koboko Municipality. Koboko District chairperson Ashrafu Mambo, identified one of the deceased as Halima Ochogoru, 17, but her colleague was yet to be identified by press time.
ย โWe are going to close the place with immediate effect because they have no license to operate a disco in that area,โ Mambo said.
๐บ๐ฌ ADJUMANI: Authorities suspend salaries of health workers over absenteeism
๐The District Health Officer Dr. Drametu Dominic on Wednesday told the press that dozens of health workers in Adjumani District have been struck off the payroll after absconding from duty Without Official Leave (AWOL). He noted that Mungula Health Center IV was affected most where only two staff attend to work, out of 22 health workers. Dr Drametu stated that records indicates that 23 health workers were not at their duty stations for other greener pastures, others took unofficial study leave while the remainder are at large.

๐ KENYA: President Ruto says Opposition won’t distract him from work
๐President William Ruto, during the unveiling of the first phase of affordable housing in Kamukunji Constituency on Friday warned Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party leaders over their plans to hold rallies in the city. This follows Raila Odinga’s announcement that he does not recognize Ruto as the Head of State. President Ruto said he will not be distracted and will continue executing his mandate.
๐ ZIMBABWE: 25 Opposition members released on bail
๐Twenty six members of the Zimbabwean Opposition party, Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), who were arrested for holding an unlawful gathering were released on bail by a Court in Harare on Friday January 27. The CCC spokeswoman Fadzayi Mahere told journalists outside court that the group that includes two MPs was arrested earlier this month.

๐At least 10 civilians were killed in two separate attacks by suspected jihadists in the Burkina Faso town of Dassa, Security said. A Security source confirmed the two groups of armed men attacked, killing 12 civilians in two areas of Dassa, west-central Burkina Faso around 140 kilometres west of the Capital Ouagadougou.

๐ The European Unionโs top diplomat, Josep Borrell announced on Friday in Pretoria it would invest more than 280 million euros ($303 million) in grants in South Africa to help the country wean itself from a coal-dependent economy. Borell said the money will support policy reforms on green recovery, unlock green investments and build a knowledge-based transition.ย
โTogether with South Africa, we are committed to a de-carbonisation pathway,โ Josep Borrell said in the statement.
๐ย AfDB and partners mobilize $30 billion for African farmers
๐The Dakar 2 Feed Africa Summit ended on Friday with a $30 billion pledge by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and development partners to finance food and agribusiness on the continent in the next five years. The AfDB pledged to mobilise $10 billion during the summit held in the Senegalese capital Dakar. AfDB President Dr Akinwumi Adesina said that Africaโs agriculture sector will depend on strong political will and commitment of Governments and development partners.

๐ The Ivory Coast Director General of Coffee and Cocoa Council (CCC), Yves Brahima Kone, said on Friday Ivory Coast will increase the amount of cocoa it processes domestically to 49% of production starting from October this year.ย Kone made the remarks in Abu Dhabi this month while opening a new CCC office. This followed an agreement signed between Ivory Coast and United Arab Emirates to construct a new plant in San Pedro with a grinding capacity of 120,000 tons of Cocoa.
๐ย One dies as two Indian military jets crash
๐Two Indian Air Force fighter jets Sukhoi-30 and the Mirage 2000 crashed in Indiaโs Madhya Pradesh state on Saturday January 28, killing one pilot, in an apparent mid-air collision while on exercises in south of the Capital New Delhi. Local administrator Ankit Asthana said that two of the three crew members from one jet were rescued and rushed to hospital. Both aircrafts had taken off in the morning from the Gwalior air base, around 50 kilometres east on routine operational flying training mission.
