The Ministry of Water and Environment has commissioned a water project in Zombo Town Council worth UGX 5.3 billion, which will provide clean water access to 660 households.
The water project was funded by the government of Uganda in partnership with KFW bank, which is expected to improve access to clean water and sanitation for the residents of Zombo District.
According to Engineer Catherine Agwai Angwec on Friday December 20, 2024, while overseeing the project, such development will address the water needs of the local community.
“The UGX 53 billion will fund the construction of water tank reservoirs at Aliza and Ajere Hills, along with ten latrine stances at Zombo Main Market, four latrine stances at Zombo Lower Primary School, and an office block for the National Water and Sewerage Corporation at Zombo Town Council offices,” Angwec said.
“This will enhance access to clean water, hence reducing water-borne diseases and improving overall hygiene practices among the residents of Zombo District,” she added.
This water project according to Engineer Angwec, is part of the Ugandan government’s broader efforts to enhance water supply and sanitation nationwide, aligned with national goals to improve public health, quality of life, and drive sustainable development while reducing poverty.
The engineer further stated that the piped water supply system will also provide safe and clean water to the growing urban centers of Zeu and Alangi in Zeu and Alangi sub-countries.
