The Wakiso Police have arrested a local lawyer, Rtd. Maj. Iduuli Ronald, for allegedly threatening violence against his landlord over a prolonged rent dispute.
The incident unfolded on the morning of December 10, when Kabira Lydia, a 44-year-old nurse from Kireka-Bbira village, reported the unsettling behavior of her tenant.
In a police statement signed by the Senior Superintendent (SSP) of Police, Patrick Oyanyago, Lydia, who has been renting to Iduuli for the past three years, expressed her concerns after the lawyer defaulted on his rent payments for the last ten months.
“The situation escalated when Iduuli began appearing in a military uniform, allegedly intimidating Lydia and raising suspicions about his intentions,” SSP Onyango said.
According to SSP Onyango, the police reacted swiftly to the complaint, and a joint operation involving the police and Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) officers led to the arrest of Iduuli.
“A search of his residence revealed alarming items, including a pair of UPDF digital uniforms, a handbook on the law of war for armed forces, a certificate of discharge from UPDF dated 2016, and a pen labeled “People’s Front for Freedom,” SSP Onyango revealed.
The police further noted that Ronald is currently detained at Bulenga Police Station, where investigations into the case of threatening violence are ongoing as they continue to gather evidence.
As the case unfolds, residents remain on edge, reflecting on the implications of such threats within their neighborhoods.
Rtd Maj Ronald Iduuli, a former defense counsel at the Makindye General Court Martial, is among the team of 50 lawyers on Dr. Kizza Besigye’s defense team.
