A Pentecostal pastor in Wakiso district, identified as Ssenyonjo Joshua, has been arrested by the police over alleged child trafficking.
According to Uganda Police Force Spokesperson SCP Fred Enanga, Ssenyonjo was discovered with 46 children and all of their luggage confined.
“We have arrested Pastor Ssenyonjo Joshua for suspected child trafficking. This was after our police in Wakiso received complaints that about 46 kids with luggage were confined in a very tiny room,” SCP Enanga said on Monday.
According to police, pastor Ssenyonjo rented two single rooms and packed boys and girls separately, claiming that it was an NGO dedicated to helping children.
Enanga cautioned parents and guardians to remain conscious before handing their children to third parties under the guise of seeking support from NGOs.
“We urge parents and guardians to take an interest in what their children are telling them and engage the police whenever they inform them of a person they met and were uncomfortable with,” he said.
Enanga advised the parents to use the traditional method of limiting their children’s conversations with strangers because nowadays people who kidnap children masquerade as friends.
