Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF) is set to hold the Annual Tarehe-Sita thanksgiving prayers at Kololo Independence grounds on Friday 26th.
According to the UPDF spokesperson Brigadier General Felix Kulayigye, President Museveni who is also the commander in chief of armed forces will grace the function as the chief guest at the function.
This event will crown the defense forces week and Tarehe-Sita activities which included construction of building blocks for different schools in Eastern Uganda, and other corporate social responsibility activities across the country.
The Tahere Sita 41st anniversary celebrations were launched by Hon. Jacob Marksons Oboth, The Minister of State for Defense in charge of general duties on the 29th of January 2022 in Mbale city.
The thanksgiving function is both cultural and religious in a way that UPDF soldiers together with their spouses and children gather to thank the Lord for granting them lives to carry out their responsibilities to the country as well as reminding themselves of the sacrifice they made to offer themselves to the nation.
WHAT TAHERE-SITA MEANS
Tarehe Sita is a Swahili word meaning the sixth day, which in this context is the 06th February 1981 when the war to fight the government characterized by dictatorship, unconstitutional governance, state oppression, and violation of human rights, was launched with an attack on Kabamba military barracks. This birthed the National Resistance Army which later turned into the UPDF.
The UPDF has since adopted the tradition of celebrating Tarehe Sita on a regional rotational basis where it carries out various civil-military activities intended to thank and give back as a token of appreciation to the Ugandans.
The men in green are our heroes and we continue to thank them for their professionalism and discipline.
