UPDF Launches Manhunt for Soldier over Killing Two Colleagues

The Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) is on the hunt for Cpl. Avugo Lomuro, of the Mountain Division Signal Department, for shooting three of his colleagues, killing two and wounding one, on Thursday, July 13th, at Muhooti barracks in Kabarole district.

“We received an incident report about one Cpl. Avugo Lomuro of the Mountain Division Signal Department attached to the Airforce Evacuation Component who shot and killed two colleagues and injured the other,” the UPDF stated.

According to the UPDF deputy spokesperson Col. Deo Akiiki, internal grievances have been identified as the root cause of the shooting, and authorities are currently engaged in efforts to apprehend the individual responsible for instigating the unrest.

“The hunt is on for the soldier who is on the run. He will definitely be brought to book to answer for his crimes,” Col. Deo Akiiki stated.

The third victim, whose identity is being withheld in accordance with UPDF rules, is said to be a female officer who is presently being treated with medication, according to sources.

The UPDF has unequivocally condemned the actions of one of its soldiers, regardless of the circumstances.
