The Uganda People’s Defense Forces-UPDF has deployed heavily along the Teso-Karamoja border to stop suspected Karamajong warriors from raiding livestock from Teso sub region.
This Military deployment follows increased threats from the Turkana and Karamojong warriors who are feared to have entered districts of Katakwi,Amuria,Kapelebyong and Abim.
These Karamanjong cattle rustlers have forced a number of families to flee their homes over the past three weeks.
The UPDF 3rd infantry Division spokesperson Major Isaac Oware, confirmed the deployment saying it is aimed at covering mostly Districts in Teso like Kapelebyong, Amuria and Katakwi.
Major Oware assured that another battalion would be set up in Abim district to secure both Otuke and Agago districts from suspected attacks from the rustlers.
“A battalion comprises 740 soldiers. The first two battalions arrived on Friday 15th, 2022 and have strategically deployed on the borders of Teso and Karamoja”.said the UPDF 3rd infantry Division spokesperson.
“More troops will be deployed to boost the existing manpower in Karamoja districts, government is not taking the issues of Karamoja lightly and people should not panic. The Karamoja situation is going to be dealt with accordingly, “he said.
Among the troops, are part of the soldiers passed out by the President Yoweri Museveni last week where he assured the country on solving the problems of Karamoja.
President Museveni has always been at forefront of securing the people under Teso Regions through programs like disarmament among others spear headed by UPDF-the National army.
