The UPDF high-powered delegation led by the Chief Political Commissar, Maj. Gen. Henry Masiko is away on a week-long visit to the Algerian Military Museum to understand it and get best practices that will be applied as UPDF moves to establish a National military Museum in Uganda at Katonga in Mpigi district.

The delegation includes Maj Gen Moses Rwakitarate and Brig Gen Sam Omara the UPDF Defence Advisor to Algeria, and Maj  Joseph Maruti, the UPDF National Military Museum Coordinator, among others.

According to the UPDF deputy spokesperson, Colonel Deo Akiiki, their mission in the Algerian capital is to study and benchmark good practices of management of the military museum and to follow up on the Memorandum of Understanding between Algeria and Uganda after the Visit by H. E President Yoweri Museveni to Algeria in March 2023.

While in Algeria, they met the director of the central military museum who briefed them on the history of the Algerian military museum.

UPDF has since 2020 embarked on a long journey to establish a national military museum, and a foundation stone was laid by His Excellency President Museveni on December 20, 2020. However, the project has been slow due to funding shortages.
