The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has dispatched over 254 district leaders from the nine districts of the Karamoja Sub-region to attend an ideological orientation programme at the Oliver Reginald Tambo Leadership School in Nakaseke District.

Local Council V Chairpersons, Mayors, District Speakers, Local Council III Chairpersons, and Councillors are among the leaders that were flagged off at the headquarters of the 3rd Infantry Division, Moroto Army Camp.

While briefing the leaders at the headquarters, Brigadier General Felix Busizoori, the 3rd Division Deputy Commander, acknowledged the involvement of the leaders in pacifying the Karamoja Sub-region and the relevance of the ideological orientation programme.

“I urge you to take this scheduled programme seriously, as it’s intended to enhance local leadership understanding skills, mindset change, teamwork, conflict management, and harmonisation of methods of work,” Busizoori stated.

He further added that the programme package is prepared to suit the Karamoja situation and also encouraged leaders to take the opportunity to interact with each other, participate in the discussions, and share knowledge that can bring socioeconomic transformation to the Karamoja sub-region.

The flagging off attracted Col Nelson Ahebwa, the Deputy Chief Political Commissar, Col. Sam Ntambirwe, the Deputy Chief of Civil-Military Cooperation, and senior officers of the Division Headquarters.
