UPDF Builds 52 Housing Units to Boost Personnel’s Welfare

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has constructed 52 new housing units at the 507 Brigade headquarters in Pader district, aimed at addressing the welfare of its personnel.

Major General Francis Takirwa, the Deputy Commander of the Land Force, commissioned the units, including the Brigade Commander’s house, housing for other ranks, and a health center III, on Monday, July 8, 2024.

“I express my gratitude to the UPDF leadership for their support in the construction works in the 5 Infantry Division, and I appreciate the engineering regiment for delivering quality work,” said Maj. Gen. Takirwa.

He added that the provision of adequate and comfortable accommodation for the soldiers is a top priority for the UPDF.

Brig. Gen. Keith Katungi, the 5th Infantry Division Commander, assured the Deputy Commander of the Land Force that the contracted facilities would be properly maintained and used.

He also noted that some of the construction works were funded from savings from the main project, including the Division guest house.

“These new housing units will go a long way in enhancing the morale and well-being of our troops serving in the 5th Infantry Division,” said Brig Gen. Katungi.

The construction of these housing units is part of the UPDF’s ongoing efforts to improve the welfare and living conditions of its personnel, particularly the rank and file.

The event was attended by Brigade Commanders and Division Staff Officers.
