The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has advised holidaymakers to involve themselves in skillful activities while at home and stay productive at family levels stating that this will help uphold personal values and discipline in accomplishing their education values.
Muzeyi Faizo, the Party Head of Communication sent out the advice to holidaymakers while addressing the press on December 11th, 2024 at the Party Head Quarters in Uganda House, Kampala.
In light of how long holidays combine with the festive season where many different activities take place including parties, Faizo reminded holidaymakers to be productive and to avoid being idle.
“In most cases, our children are becoming less productive at a family level which is bound to complicate their adult lives. We call upon parents to engage their children in skillful and productive activities,” he said
As well as urging all stakeholders to play a part in grooming children during holidays, Faizo also urged parents to monitor and shape their children’s behavior.
“Give time to your children, listen to them, guide them while at home as opposed than leaving this key parental responsibility to teachers and maids,” he added.
Faizo’s call comes at a time when school dropouts are on the rise. It is estimated that 30% of secondary school students drop out before completing their education, with girls dropping out more frequently than boys.
