The opposition Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party has hailed the move by President Museveni to fire top Kampala City Council Authority, KCCA bosses over negligence.

On Tuesday, September 24th, 2024, President Museveni sacked the Executive Director Dorothy Kisaka, the Deputy Executive Director Engineer David Luyimbazi, and the Director of Public Health, Dr. Daniel Okello.

While addressing the press at the UPC offices at Uganda House in Kampala on Wednesday, September 25th, 2024, the UPC spokesperson, Arach Oyat Sharon, asked the President to apply such a decision to other government institutions.

The President’s decision was informed by the report of the Inspector General of Government (IGG) that confirmed severe oversight and negligence that led to the deaths of over 32 people and property worth billions destroyed.

“As UPC, we appreciate the move, and as long as there is accountability, we don’t care if he is doing it as a political move or not,” Arach said.

Arach also said that the action alone is not enough; there should be more investigations, and the fired people should be held accountable.

Kiteezi Landfill collapsed in August 2024, killing people, and many stakeholders agreed that there was a prior warning and report citing a pending disaster, which technical leaders were aware of but took things slightly and unfortunately resulted in the loss of lives.
