The opposition Uganda People’s Congress party asked school owners to allow parents to pay fees in installments, especially those who are unable to afford full payment.
Sharon Arach, the UPC spokesperson, while addressing the media at the party headquarters in Kampala on Wednesday, September 11th, 2024, said the third term is very crucial for learners since it’s a promotional term.
According to her, learners should be allowed to have 100% attendance in class even when the parents have not fully paid the school dues.
“Our request is coming against the backdrop of hard times affecting most of our families as a result of harsh socio-economic conditions. UPC has noted that a good number of parents are still struggling to clear school fee balances accruing from the 1st term. Kindly allow parents to clear their children’s dues in installments,” Arach noted.
Arach also asked other service providers dealing with scholastic material not to hike the prices of different items.
“Scholastic material service providers shouldn’t irrationally hike prices of books, sets, pens, uniforms, and shoes, among others, because it can affect students are reporting back to schools,” Arach said.
Starting Sunday, September 15, 2024, learners will be reporting for the 3rd term across the country, and it’s the term where students are promoted to the next class and others in candidate classes sit for national exams.
