The grade one magistrate court in Mbarara has charged a Bishop Stuart University lecturer with grievous harm to her 21-year-old housemaid by pouring hot water.
The accused has been identified as Doreen Atwongire, a 39-year-old lecturer at Bishop Stuart University, in Mbarara, and the victim as Racheal Ninsiima, a 21-year-old housemaid.
Rusoke Kituuma on October 10, 2024, highlighted that the incident occurred on September 25, 2024, when Doreen returned home to find her child crying.
“Doreen allegedly poured boiling water on Racheal when she tried to explain the situation,“ Rusoke explained.
He further stated that Racheal sought medical attention at a nearby clinic and was admitted overnight. Where she reported the incident to Katete police the following day, leading to Doreen’s arrest.
Rusoke said that the accused was not allowed to take plea and the case was adjourned to October 15, 2024.
