Police in Kigezi are looking into the murder of an unidentified man whose body was found in a swamp in Kabale district. The body was discovered on October 11, 2024, in Rwakihirwa cell, Kamuganguzi Sub County, near Katuna Road.

Initial reports suggest that the man was brutally killed by unknown attackers on October 10, 2024, around 5:45 pm to 6:00 pm. His body was then dumped into the swamp to hide the crime.

According to ASP Elly Maate, the police spokesperson for the Kigezi region, the body was found by a young boy who was watching over animals. The boy alerted the local area chairperson, Abraham Nuwagaba, who then informed the police.

Nuwagaba contacted the Officer in Charge of the Kamuganguzi Police Station, who reported it to the Kabale Police Station. A team of officers arrived to retrieve the body.

ASP Maate reported that the deceased had scratches on his face and multiple wounds on his body, indicating that he was killed elsewhere before being dumped in the swamp to cover up evidence.

The body has been taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination. Efforts are ongoing to identify the deceased, as locals in Rwakihirwa cell do not recognize him, and he had no identification on him.

ASP Maate also urged anyone who may be missing a family member to check at the hospital mortuary. They must bring identification to claim the body if it is found to be their loved one.

This incident is part of a worrying trend in Kabale, where there have been several cases of unidentified bodies. For instance, on October 2, 2024, a body of an unidentified man, believed to be between 30 and 40 years old, was discovered along the Kabale-Kisoro road by a boda boda rider in Kamuterere village, in Rubanda district who promptly reported it to the police.
