The President of Uganda National Farmers’ Federation (UNFF), Dick Kamuganga, has applauded their partnership with Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) that has promoted market-oriented production, which is set to be a key driver of the Parish Development Model’s success to different households with the aim of eradicating poverty.
According to Kamuganga, the lessons learnt from the 11-year partnership with OWC include proper identification, mobilization, organization, and empowerment of Ugandan farmers, which has transformed them from subsistence farming to commercialized agriculture.
“We are like 4.5 million households in the country in subsistence farming; through OWC this number has reduced from 69% to 39%. Such OWC intervention essentially increased the production of the subsistence farmer,” Kamuganga said on his X handle.
The Uganda National Farmers Federation, established in 1992, is one of the largest farmers’ umbrella organizations in the country, with over 170 members nationwide.
The ongoing collaboration with OWC is expected to further promote market-oriented production, aligning farmers’ output with market demands.
This shift towards more commercial farming practices has enabled farmers to earn better prices for their produce, enhancing their household incomes.
The partnership has improved agricultural practices by providing access to better inputs and technologies, leading to increased agricultural output and higher earnings for farmers. This has directly contributed to improved household incomes, underscoring the positive impact of the UNFF-OWC partnership on Uganda’s agricultural sector.
