The Uganda National Examinations Board has warned journalists and media outlets against taking pictures or videos inside examination rooms during the ongoing exams.
This directive comes after UNEB officials noticed on October 14, 2024, that some journalists were taking pictures in examination rooms, sparking concerns about examination security.
According to UNEB spokesperson Jennifer Kalule, while addressing the media on October 21, 2024, at police headquarters, Naguru said that accessing examination rooms without permission from the executive director is illegal and poses a significant threat to examination integrity.
“Such an action is a threat to the security examination. Just in case of a problem arising out of your action, you will be convicted for aiding and abetting malpractice, and according to UNEB Act 2021, Kalule said.
Kalule emphasized that anyone who violates the rule will face conviction under Section 36 of the UNEB Act 2021 for aiding and abetting examination malpractice.
She also called upon all media houses to resist covering UNEB activities within the information room while the missions are in progress.
Kalule also revealed that UNEB is committed to ensuring a smooth examination period while addressing any instances of malpractice or unauthorized behavior examination period.
According to the UNEB Act, Section 36 of the Act states that any person who aids, abets, induces, or incites another person to do or does act in a manner that facilitates the commission of the offense under the Act commits an offense and is liable on conviction to a pen-out prescribed under the respective section in the UNEP Act.
As UCE exams continue across the country, UNEB remains vigilant in monitoring compliance with established guidelines.
