The Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) has declared registration fees for all candidates at different levels. These include Primary Living Examinations (PLE), Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE).
According to UNEB, normal registration fees for all levels are expected to be paid in the period between 1st April and 31st May 2023, and surcharge for late registration is between 1st and 30th June while surcharge for late registration will be between 1st and 31st July 2023.
UNEB through their twitter handle guided that the primary seven candidates are to pay normal fees of Ugx 34,000, senior four candidates will pay Ugx 164,000 and senior six candidates pay Ugx 186,000.
Concerning surcharge for late registration fee, UNEB stated that P.7 candidates will pay a hundred percent of their fees which is approximately Ugx 68,000 shillings, while S.4 and S.6 will pay 50% of their fees that is Ugx 246,000 and Ugx 279,000 respectively.
UNEB also declared the surcharge for latest registration where P.7 candidates will maintain 100% of their fees, whereas S.4 and S.6 will pay 100% of their fees which is Ugx 328,000 and Ugx 372,000 respectively.
The board has cautioned heads of centers and their representatives against misappropriation of examination registration fees revealing that it is an offence liable to a fine of forty million shillings or a term of imprisonment not exceeding ten years.
According to UNEB, it is also an offence to charge fees not prescribed by UNEB and refer to that as UNEB fees.
“The heads of centers and school directors are therefore cautioned against calling any other administrative costs as UNEB fees and such offence attracts a penalty of forty million shillings,” the statement read in part.
UNEB cautioned heads of government aided schools against registering privately sponsored candidates as government sponsored because such fraudulent practices cause financial loss to the government and according to UNEB, any victim of such practice will pay a double of the amount that has been defrauded.
According to UNEB, the government will pay registration fees for all candidates sponsored under the Universal Primary Education (UPE), Universal Secondary Education (USE) and the Universal Post O-Level Education and training (UPOLET) Programs.
