The Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) is conducting a national classification and grading of accommodation facilities, an initiative aimed at improving tourism in the country.
The program, expected to run until July 31, 2024, was unveiled by UTB on their official handle X on Monday, June 10, 2024, and aimed to assign star ratings (from 1 to 5 stars) to hotels, lodges, and guest houses across Uganda so as to help guests understand the level of services they should expect from either of the facilities.
According to UTB, the star rating system will provide much-needed clarity for tourists, both domestic and international, regarding a specific facility and what is being offered.
By simply looking at a hotel’s star rating, you’ll have a clear idea of the level of service and amenities you can expect,” UTB noted.
Gessa Simplicious, the Head of Public Relations of the Uganda Tourism Board, said that the implementation will allow anyone to choose the perfect accommodation to match their budget and travel style.
“We believe this initiative will greatly benefit both local and international tourists,” Simplicious said.
He added that the classification system is designed to enhance Uganda’s competitiveness as a top tourist destination in East Africa.
“By establishing clear standards for accommodation quality, Uganda is making a significant investment in its tourism industry,” Simplicious added.
With the ongoing program being conducted by UTB, tourists can easily choose hotels that best suit their budget and desired level of comfort in any location across Uganda.
The classification and grading are taking place in cities including Kampala, Entebbe, Masaka, Hoima, Gulu, Fort Portal, Arua, and districts such as Kabarole, Wakiso, Kabale, Kisoro, Kayunga, Kibale, Kalangala, Kabale, Kanungu, and Rubirizi.
