The Minister of Finance Planning and Economic Development Matia Kasaija is in Malaysia on a mission to promote Uganda as a prime destination for investment and tourism, aiming to attract partnerships that will drive sustainable development.
While addressing Malaysian press Kasaija alongside the Minister of Energy and mineral development Ruth Nakabirwa on Wednesday April 23, 2025 noted that they are in Malaysia to promote Uganda as the best trade, tourism and investment destination in Africa .
“We have embarked on visiting our foreign offices to market Uganda as a potential and reliable partner any business person can partner with and achieve a lot while doing business with us,’’ Kasaija said .
Minster Kasaija applauded the Uganda high commission in Malaysia as one of the pioneer missions that have implemented the Economic commercial diplomacy strategy which upon implementation will led to a tenfold growth agenda .
Malaysian Ambassador Dr. Betty Bigombe highlighted the various opportunities Uganda offers in investment, tourism, and export sectors.
She emphasized Uganda’s strategic location within the East African Community (EAC), which provides access to a regional market of over 300 million people, making it an attractive destination for foreign investors.
‘‘Uganda is blessed with a diverse natural beauty, including its national parks, wildlife, and unique cultural heritage. Uganda is a home to more than half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas, as well as the source of the Nile River, making it a prime location for eco-tourism and adventure tourism’’ Dr. Bigombe said .
It is worth noting that in 2023, the government launched an ambitious strategy aimed at expanding Uganda’s economy from USD 50 billion to USD 500 billion by 2040.
This “Ten-Fold Growth Strategy” is anchored in four key pillars: agro-industrialization, tourism, mineral development, and science and technology innovation (ATMS), all designed to accelerate sustainable economic growth.
