The Commissioner General, Dr. Johnson Byabashaija, of Uganda Prisons, has completed his two-day trip in Uganda’s South Western Region today, May 24, 2024, with a visit to the newly constructed Ntungamo prison.
During his visit, Dr. Byabashaija stressed the importance of ensuring the well-being and security of both prison staff and inmates.
However, Byabashaija conducted a thorough inspection of the prison, examining staff housing, prisoner wards, security features, and their critical areas around them.
According to Byabashaija, his focus was on ensuring the facility upholds safe, secure, and humane living conditions for inmates.
“Kindly remain patriotic, conduct regular medical check-ups for a healthy life, and continue providing excellent services,’’ Byabashaija said.
The Commissioner General commended the staff of Ntungamo Prison for their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to maintaining the new facility.
He encouraged them to continue their excellent service and prioritise their health by undergoing regular medical check-ups.
Dr. Byabashaija also met with Officers-in-Charge (OCs) and their deputies from various prisons across the South Western Region.
The discussions centered around strategies to enhance the effectiveness of the Uganda Prisons Service. Key topics included adherence to administrative guidelines, preventing prisoner escapes, and efficient management of both staff and inmates.
