The African Union (AU) Commission delegation has praised the Ugandan government for its readiness to host the AU Extraordinary Summit on Agriculture – CAADP, scheduled from January 9 to 11, 2025, at the Speke Resort and Convention Centre in Munyonyo. CAADP stands for the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme.
The African Union Commission delegation led by the Secretary to the Commission Dalitso Bonongwe, concluded their mission on Friday, November 15, 2024.
The delegation since Monday, November 11, 2024, had been assessing Uganda’s preparedness to host the Summit.
The team visited the conference facilities, accommodation facilities, and medical facilities and also reviewed the airport handling and immigration processes.
The team also interacted with the Security and Publicity sub-committees to harmonize implementation strategies for the smooth running of the Summit.
“We are impressed by the host country’s early preparations to host this Summit and the level of preparedness. A lot of effort has been made to ensure that we are where we are,” Bonongwe said.
The Ugandan delegation was led by the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) Maj Gen David Kasura-Kyomukama who was accompanied by Amb. Aisa Ismail Deputy Chief of Protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Maj Gen Kyomukama in his remarks reiterated the Government of Uganda’s commitment to hosting a smooth and successful summit.
“I would like to assure you that as previously committed by the President of the Republic of Uganda, Uganda is ready to host this Summit, and as we embrace the draft Kampala declaration in 2025 and review the impact of the Malabo declaration in 2014 on the growth of the economy. We also invite you to visit Uganda and experience the beauty of the Pearl of Africa,” Maj Gen Kyomukama said.
The Summit which will focus on the Comprehensive Africa Agricultural Development Programme 2026-2035 will set the Agenda for economic growth and transformation through agriculture development for the next decade.
The Summit comes almost a year to the day after Uganda hosted successfully the NAM and G7+China Summits at the same venue.
