Uganda Police Mourns Former IGP Okoth Ogola, A Pillar of Law Enforcement

The Uganda Police Force is mourning the passing of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Okoth Ogola, who served from 1981 to 1985.

Ogola passed away today the 14 February 2025, at Nakasero Hospital in kampala.

The current IGP, Abas Byakagaba, has extended his condolences to the family and pledged that the late IGP will be honored in a manner befitting his legacy.

“The Uganda Police Force deeply mourns the loss of former IGP Okoth Ogola. His leadership and contributions to the force remain invaluable, and we are committed to ensuring he is remembered with the dignity he deserves,” Byakagaba stated.

During his tenure as IGP, Ogola played a pivotal role in strengthening law enforcement, enhancing police professionalism, and improving community relations.

His leadership saw key reforms that shaped the modern structure of the force, leaving a lasting impact on Uganda’s security framework.

The police will provide further updates on funeral arrangements in due course. A public vigil is expected to be held in his honor, allowing colleagues, friends, and well-wishers to pay their respects.

Okoth Ogola is remembered for his service and dedication to the security and development of the force. His passing is a significant loss to the law enforcement community and the nation at large.
