Uganda Launches Digital Agenda 2024/2031(DA2030) for Technological Development

Uganda has launched the digital agenda 2024/2031 at Lugogo Hockey grounds in Kampala with the aim to enhance technological development in the country.

The project falls under the Digital Uganda Vision framework and is structured in accordance with Uganda’s Digital Transformation Programme outlined in the Third National Development Plan (NDPIII) and Digital Transformation roadmap.

During the event, which was officiated by the First Lady and Minister of Education, Janet Kataha Museveni, on August 22, 2024, she noted that a global revolution is currently taking place in education and training, which is driven by the changing nature of work, the realities of the information age, emerging technologies, globalization and an awareness of the need for inclusion in educational opportunities.

Uganda adopted the digital agenda under the digital Uganda Vision (DUV) 2040 aiming to enhance and develop technology in the country and avail measures required or planned for a systematic approach to shaping the digital transformation of a particular system.

According to the Minister of State for Education and Sports, Peter Ogwang, the initiative targets coverage and improved digital access for citizens and small scale enterprises through developing infrastructure, digital skills development, cyber security and economical social transformation which is in line with Uganda’s vision 2024 and NDIII.

The launch involved the handover of sites to contractors for expansion of nine technical institutes. The institution sites included Nkoko institute in Njeru, St. Kizito in Masaka, Lutunku in Moroto, Naluweri in Busia, Birembo in Kasese, Merukuru in Oyam and Minakulu in Moroto.
