The Uganda Lady Cranes Rugby team is set to participate in the Rugby Africa Women’s Sevens that will be held in Tunisia in October this year.
According to the organisers, the overall winner of the Africa Women’s Sevens competitions in Tunisia will qualify for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games that are set to be held in Paris, France.
The Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be the biggest event ever organised in France, and they will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
“We will compete in the Rugby Africa Women’s Sevens in Tunisia, which also serves as the 2024 Olympic Qualifiers,” the Uganda Lady Cranes tweeted.
The tournament, which will involve African countries such as Uganda, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, Senegal, Burundi, Algeria, and Namibia, among others, will start on October 14–15, 2023.
Uganda Lady Cranes finished fourth in last year’s Rugby Africa women’s sevens tournament after falling short of qualifying for the World Cup and Commonwealth Games after losing the semi-final to Madagascar 17-12 in a tightly contested game.
However, South Africa won the tournament, humbling Madagascar in the final, to qualify for the Commonwealth Games, while Madagascar qualified for the World Cup to join South Africa.
