UBOS Covers 2.6 Million Households in 3 Days of National Housing and Population Census

Dr. Albert Byamugisha, the Chairman Board, of Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has said that in the past three days of the National Housing and Population Census (NHPC) exercise, enumerators have so far covered 2.6 million households (30%) of the estimated 8.7 million to be covered.

He made the remarks on May 13, 2024, while addressing the Media at the Police headquarters in Naguru.

“For the past three days, the number of households we have covered is about 30% of the estimated 8.7 million households,” Byamugisha said.

Byamugisha urged members of the public who have not yet been enumerated to be patient.

“If you have not yet been counted, we still have seven more days of the exercise. Take it easy, we are working now with the LCs in that, we are strengthening and adding more enumerators in those areas where they have glitches,” he said.

The Director for Digital Solutions and Data Capability, UBOS, James Kizza, assured the public that the data entered into the system by the enumerators is more that safe.

“Our data is 100% safe because whoever can enter that data can be recognized on the system,” Kizza said.

He refuted the allegations that UBOS has a system failure but rather an issue of some enumerators failing to log into the system because the districts did not assign them their enumeration areas.

The board and management of UBOS assured the public that they would conduct a smooth enumeration exercise. They appealed to everyone to continue supporting and cooperating with the field teams by providing accurate and honest responses to all the questions.
